Position Summary
Responsible for planning, directing, and implementing plant improvement activities in a safe and environmentally conscious manner, in order to maintain and improve competitive position and profitability.
Supervision Given
Supervises consultants, contractors, equipment manufacturer representatives and other temporarily assigned engineering staff on assigned projects and tasks.
Responsibilities
Directs, leads and drives the development, planning, scheduling, coordinating, and implementation of advanced and complex plant improvements.
Interfaces with other GENCO engineering groups, environmental specialists, controllers, buyers, and plant management to ensure that improvement activities align with GENCO/plant/unit financial and operating goals. Demonstrates leadership in the area of safety. This requires an in depth understanding of Company and OSHA safety rules and practices, encouraging safe work behaviors, and promptly correcting conditions and unsafe behaviors which may lead to accidents and personnel injury. Identifies and develops innovative methods for improving generating station availability, equipment reliability, and efficiency while reducing operating and maintenance costs. Drives for continuous improvement in all processes. Participates on project teams to deliver engineering services and projects on time and on budget to the satisfaction of the GENCO customer. Develops, recommends, plans, coordinates, and interprets corrective/preventive/predictive maintenance activities in support of reliable and efficient plant operations. Develops a sound working relationship with engineering consultants, contractors, and equipment manufacturers representatives to determine the best application of their products and services. Directs and assists in the verification of the benefits and cost savings resulting from completed engineering projects. Actively assists in GENCO budgeting process.Helps to establish and apply corporate and GENCO values in the compliance to all environmental, safety and regulatory requirements. Keeps fully informed of electric generating station state-of-the-art technology, materials, processes and equipment. Develops recommendations for best application of this knowledge. Chairs, facilitates, coordinates, and implements generating station programmatic initiatives and user group activities for the fleet wide standardization of technology, and operating practices, and procedures. Technical/Job Skill Qualifications
The Senior Engineer- Equipment Specialist candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications, and have demonstrated the following technical or job skills:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college with a degree in Electrical engineering. PE preferred.7-10 years of experience in the knowledge of the theory and application of business planning process, including industry trends and directions, developing and implementing engineering programs and strategies to satisfy customer's present and future needs. Must possess strong interpersonal skills including team facilitation, negotiation, and conflict management, written and verbal communication, influence and persuasion techniques, and group presentation.Demonstrated in-depth understanding of engineering and operations related financial and business skills including budgeting and general utility economics,
Superior project management and scheduling skills.Thorough knowledge of electric and steam generation industry, plant operations, mechanical and electrical equipment, maintenance methods.Skilled in the use of IT tools, including spreadsheets, word processing, planning and scheduling software. AutoCad, Powerpoint, etcIn depth understanding of the theory and application of data-driven management practices including Statistical Process Control, Continuous Quality and Process Improvement and data collection and analysis.Proven ability to work with consultants, contractors, vendors, and generating station management to deliver goods and services in a timely and professional manner.Proven ability to administer company contracts and procedures.Demonstrated effective leadership skills, including: mentoring and training young engineers, assisting others in career planning, working with peers, and management to develop and foster an employee enriched working environment.Ability to work in a diverse work environment.Possession of valid driver's license.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
Physical requirements include twisting, turning, walking, sitting, standing, hearing, seeing, speaking, writing, finger dexterity, reading and operating vehicles and basic office equipment, eye equipment, head covering and hearing protection.
