BP's Exploration and Production Technology Group (EPTG) comprises approximately 750 technology and support staff, and is mainly based in Houston and Sunbury.  EPTG is engaged in the development and delivery of new technology, supporting functional excellence, and providing direct technical support to BP's Business Units around the world. Thirty-one Technology teams are organized into six functionally aligned Technology Units which aim to provide solutions to the near and long term technical challenges facing the company.


The Houston Offshore Systems team is part of the Projects Technology Unit within EPTG.  It is a multi-disciplinary team and includes over 30 engineers covering floating systems, materials and welding, geotechnical, metocean, arctic, subsea and flow assurance disciplines. The team's main objectives are to deliver distinctive technologies, project support and technical leadership to BP's Exploration and Production business.


The Offshore Systems team is seeking a Senior Floating Systems Engineer to provide technical support to operations and development activities in deepwater Gulf of Mexico (GOM) while participating in the larger BP deepwater global technology program.


The Senior Floating Systems Engineer will work in a multi-disciplinary environment to create solutions for future deepwater prospects including wet tree and dry tree development options. In addition, this person will liaise with marine, drilling and completions, materials and integrity management technical staff to assess issues related to maintenance and repair of existing deepwater facilities. The Senior Floating Systems Engineer will be expected to interface actively with the operations or development teams and be able to manage multiple projects at the same time.  The Senior Floating Systems Engineer may also interact with other BP projects or operations around the world.


This is a high impact position which requires an applicant who has shown initiative and innovation and who is willing to undertake technical challenges associated with industry firsts.  This position is critical to the success of the company and helping BP maintain its position as an industry leader in deepwater GOM.


Accountabilities Include:

Providing support in deepwater floating concepts such as TLP's, semi-submersibles, FPSO's and Spars as related to production drilling, completion activities and production concept evaluation. 
Integrating the floating system solutions and technology with other disciplines in the overall appraisal/development of new fields.
Providing leadership in demonstrating BP's commitment to our policy of "No accidents, No harm to people and No harm to the environment."
Defining best in class floater technology solutions and supporting BP's ongoing and future developments.
Evaluating the operating data collected by BP from the existing deepwater facilities.
Supporting integrity management efforts for BP's deepwater floating developments.
Participating actively in managing BP's floating system technology Research and Development  program (e.g., model testing of new deepwater concepts).
Implementing BP's Technical Quality Assurance for new and ongoing projects.
Providing technical support to the deepwater projects.
Working with other technology experts to implement new technologies where appropriate.
Mentoring less experienced staff.


Required Qualifications:
To be considered for the role of Senior Floating Systems Engineer applicants must have:

A minimum of a 4 year Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering with formal education in dynamics.
Experience in planning, analysis and design of deepwater floating systems.


Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the required qualifications the successful candidate is likely to be able to demonstrate:

Legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than your current employer.
A Master of Science or PhD in Engineering.
A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
Experience with hydrodynamic modeling, dynamic analysis and reliability analysis of deepwater floating concepts such as TLP's, semi-submersibles, Spars or FPSO's.
Basic knowledge of model testing in a wave basin.
Experience with floating system instrumentation systems.
Competency in wet and dry system solutions.
A working knowledge of project management.
The ability to multi-task and work with minimal supervision.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across technology functions and within multidisciplinary teams.
Track record of performance delivery.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
