Senior Subsea / Pipeline Research Engineer

Location: Houston, Texas, United States Research, development and the deployment of technology for Shell's global exploration and production businesses is managed by Shell?s technology division of Shell International Exploration and Production (SIEP). Two companies, one based in The Netherlands and the other in the United States, work together to provide a wide range of products and services to Shell companies in the sector.

Shell International Exploration and Production Inc. is currently seeking a Senior Subsea / Pipeline Research Engineer for its Houston, Texas location.

Responsibilities:
In this position, you will be responsible for leading and conducting research and technology development in the areas of deepwater pipeline system and components.
 
Key Accountabilities Include:
- Participating in hundreds of thousands to multi-million US$ projects
- Managing project of a few people. No direct line responsibilities
- Engaging with a variety of stakeholders, both internal (e.g. Other R&D program/projects; EPT-P Subsea and Pipeline, and external (e.g. other operators, members of JIP; Contractor supervision)
- Defining projects for technology development in the area of Deepwater subsea flowline/pipeline and subsea intervention, Maintenance, and repair based on Shell / Region aspirations
- Contributing to technology development projects in EPT-R as senior Engineer, technical specialist, based on a broad and in-depth knowledge of deepwater subsea and pipeline equipment, components, and system in the area of design analysis, testing, installation, and offshore construction
- Maintaining technical service/support to EPT-P subsea / pipeline project execution community on resolving special technical issues/problems
- Ensuring that projects are integrated with other disciplines where needed
- Keeping track of progress and steer projects where necessary
- Communicating with customers on project definitions and outcome.
- Contributing to Shell?s reputation in the outside world (e.g. papers, presentations on workshops or conferences)
- Keeping abreast of latest developments in the world (e.g. by competitors) in the area of DW pipeline and IMR technologies

Requirements:
To be considered for this position, you must possess an Engineering or academic degree in the Engineering Mechanics/Mechanical Engineering or similar disciplines and have approximately 10 or more years E&P experience with good balance of technology development, project execution, pipeline construction / offshore operation of IMR.

Additional Requirements Include:
- Proven track record of team player as well as technical leader
- Excellent in coaching and developing team members
- Recognized expert in subsea / pipeline discipline
- Strong understanding of main challenges facing deepwater development today
- Substantial experiences, and expert knowledge in DW subsea and flowline/pipeline (hardware equipment and system) design, offshore construction, and DW IMR (intervention maintenance and repair)
- Familiar with current practices and emerging technologies in DW flow assurance in general and remediation tools and technologies in particular
- Solid Knowledge in pipe mechanics and design and construction
- Good communication skills (verbal, presentations, personal)
- Strong internal motivation and ability to defend his ideas
- High CAPEX ? subsea and pipeline systems skills
- Heavy equipment / systems, vessel dependent? IMR tools/ systems skills
- Long offshore operation duration for IMR tasks skills
- Non-adaptive subsea and flow line systems skills
- Sour services flowline skills
