POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Senior UNIX System Administrator reports to the IT Technical Services Manager in IT.  This position will be responsible for implementation, support, management, and performance tuning of LINUX and UNIX servers, primarily running RedHat LINUX.

KNOWLEDGE:

In-depth knowledge of Intel & SUN hardware, Application Architecture and Middleware, Basic Oracle Database and configuration knowledge.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Responsible for installing hardware and software, conducting system upgrades, evaluating and installing patches and resolving software related problems. Individual will perform system backups and recovery; maintain user accounts; conduct training, maintain documentation and provide support for IT related problems.

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS):

? Education and Certifications:  Bachelor?s Degree in Computer Science or IT related field.

? Experience:  Minimum of five years experience as a UNIX System Administrator, primarily with RedHat Linux.  Experience supporting Production, Development & QA systems.

? Skills / Responsibilities:RedHat Linux supportShell script writing & debuggingWorking knowledge of NFS, NIS and Automounter.Storage Area Network Experience, preferably EMCPerformance analysis and Capacity planningSolid working knowledge of Internet standards and protocols (DNS, TCP/IP, etc)Backup and Recovery experience, preferably using Legato Networker.Communication, customer service, and Problem solving skills
