Position Description:

Chevron Corporation is accepting online applications for a Tax Counsel (0608-50161613) located in Concord, CA, through August 30, 2006.

Tax attorney to specialize in federal and state motor fuels taxation, and state and local excise tax taxation, and opportunity to work on other areas of state taxation if proven skills and desires.

Qualifications:

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide legal advice on federal and state motor fuels taxation, participate in taxpayer organizations to influence legislation and rule making, advise clients on compliance with same. Also advise on state and local excise, sales and use taxes. Provide advice and assistance on government audits of these taxes. Requires excellent research and writing skills and communication and interpersonal skills. Position is an outgrowth of growing business, and will require working closely with current attorney specializing in these areas.

SPECIAL SKILLS/ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- Bachelor?s degree required
- J.D. (law) required and 3+ years of experience in tax law
- Bar admission required
- Relocation benefits will be considered.
- Expatriate Assignment will be considered.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
Tax analytical skills: strong background in research and analysis of tax laws

Tax legal research experience in various complex areas; state and local experience important, sales/use/excise preferred. Motor fuels a big plus.

Strong academic credentials

Strong interpersonal skills: ability to work well with clients, and reconcile client needs with best overall tax results. Good communication skills: Ability to translate law into practical and useable advice

Ability to work independently with limited management guidance. Good business and tax judgement
