Transmission Dispatcher

Position is located in Columbus, OH.

Position Duties:

Responsible for assisting in the following areas: efficient operation of the transmission system; assisting in routine switching operations, equipment removal for maintenance of transmission lines and stations; receiving, recording and maintaining logs of operating conditions. Duties increase with experience and primary responsibility is assumed upon the required progression to a Transmission Dispatcher II classification.

1. Assist in writing basic prearranged switching instructions, as directed.

2. Observe and operate the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA), as directed.

3. Dispatch switching operations on the transmission system, as directed. Must be able to analyze information and communicate clearly and precisely with company personnel.

4. Assist in compiling reports on automatic and manual equipment operations.

5. Read station one-line diagrams, switching diagrams, and load and voltage diagrams.

6. Assist in monitoring safe loading of Company electrical facilities and system voltage levels.

7. Operate Company communication facilities.

8. Demonstrate the highest standards of ethical behavior and support the Company's Corporate Compliance Policy.

9. Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Work Hours / Travel Requirements:

Required to work on a rotating shift schedule that includes weekends, midnight's and holiday's. Travel will be required for occasional visits to substations, planning meetings, training schools etc. as responsibilities increase. Position is as an exempt employee and any hours of 'Casual Overtime' will not be considered for any extra compensation.

Education Requirements:

Associate Degree.

Experience Requirements:

Two-year technical degree in Electrical Engineering or the equivalent education and/or experience. No experience required. Three (3) years' experience in substation operation, protective relaying or distribution dispatching is desired.

Special Qualifications (Training, Skills ETC.):

Must have a work history that demonstrates dependability and responsiveness to business needs; must be able to make critical decisions; must be able to work under pressure during periods of critical system conditions and deal with diverse situations simultaneously.

Must have basic computer skills and possess the ability to follow and communicate instructions clearly and concisely. In a timely manner, must satisfactorily complete all required training to advance within the line of progression to the next higher dispatcher classification, including obtaining a required 'NERC' certification, or face termination. Must be willing to work on a rotating shift that includes holiday's, weekend's and midnight's. Must possess and maintain a valid state drivers license and meet all vehicle operation requirements as designated by federal and/or state law.
