8- Human Factors Engineer / Staff Engineer

Provide technical leadership to the global team responsible for describing user behaviors; defining user and system requirements; designing system interfaces and interaction behaviors; prototyping systems for test and evaluation; modeling electrical interfaces; and documenting HMI specifications for Electrical Components, including infotainment, telematics, displays, and controls.Apply user-centered design processes toward the development of embedded automotive applications:Lead development of human-machine interface (HMI) and interaction behaviors for Electrical components, such as Infotainment, Telematics, Displays, Controls, HVAC, etc.Perform user goals, behaviors, and task analysis to generate use cases, product concepts, user interface/interaction requirements, and product specifications.?Develop innovative interface designs and screen layouts, and create storyboards and functional prototypes demonstrating interaction behaviors.?Manage Global activities related to the Human-Vehicle Interface Innovation Program; conducting applied engineering research on driver-vehicle interfaces and effects on driving performance and acceptance.?Define and conduct usability studies, and develop alternative solutions for control/display interfaces based on test results.?Evaluate product functionality against compliance with internal and external requirements?Participate in training, documentation development and testing.Coordinate and collaborate with R&D, Market Research, and other divisions to perform field trials and customer evaluations.Document, maintain, and revise functional user interaction specifications and HMI requirements for use in product development by suppliers.Generates technical solutions for current, new and major architecturesProvides technical leadership for advanced cross functional technology developmentDevelops and performs complex design analysisDevelops and evaluates engineering designs (including subsystems)Implements engineering changesCreates and balances requirements across systemsInitiates and evaluates cost studies, product suggestions and value analysesPlan and implements complex test and/or development programsRelease parts and subsystems for productionLeads overall communication, coordination, and consultation with engineering departments and customersStays abreast of new technology and competitive productsTravels as requiredTrains, develops, mentors and evaluates technical capability of team membersRepresents unit in vendor and/or customer contactsReleases final designs for manufacturing or purchase as appropriate

?Basic Required:


5+? years experience in human factors engineering, human-computer interaction, interaction design of automotive and consumer electronics, ergonomics, systems engineering and/or related fields e.g. Multimedia development including graphics design or functional modeling.

Master's degree in Human Factors Engineering or Industrial Engineering, Engineering Psychology or, Experimental Psychology, or Cognitive Psychology.

Strong skills in problem solving and communication.

Strong human-computer interaction knowledge, skills, and experience.

Proficient using rapid prototyping, graphical design, simulation software, and/or multimedia development tools (e.g., Director, Flash, Fireworks, Photoshop, Illustrator, Altia, UML, Rhapsody for C++).

Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.

Proven track record of implementing user-centered designs

Knowledge of various user research and interaction design methodologies.

Ph.D. in Human Factors Engineering or Industrial Engineering, Engineering Psychology, Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology and 5 + years of experience responsible for interaction design of automotive, embedded systems, consumer electronics, or consumer products, including detailed behavior specification and requirements development

Experience with driver-distraction/multitask environments and driver/operator performance measurement, and an understanding of user interface limitations that come with the automotive/driving environment

Combination of user research, design (graphic and/or interaction), and usability skills

Thorough knowledge of design development and test engineering, manufacturing and assembly operations, engineering processes and procedures

Highly developed oral and written communications skills

High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employees, and elicit work output

Very?high level of analytical?problem solving skills where problems?are very unusual and extremely difficult.
