AV Coding and Processing Researcher

Sharp Laboratories of America is seeking an AV Coding and Processing Researcher. This position requires a Ph.D. degree in EE/CS or equivalent.  The candidate should have a strong knowledge and hands-on experience in digital video/image coding and compression, video coding standards such as MPEG2, MPEG4, H.263, H.263+, and H.264, as well as digital video and image processing and analysis, e.g. motion estimation, spatial and temporal interpolation, coding artifacts removal, noise filtering and visual quality optimization for LCD display. The candidate also needs strong C or C++ programming skills

 

Major Responsibilities Include:

? Research, develop, implement, and test video/image compression, processing, enhancement and communication algorithms and applications for consumer electronics and multimedia products.

? Create new technologies and generate intellectual property through patent applications.

? Implement software, firmware or hardware prototypes of the developed technologies for technology transfer to Sharp product groups.

? Develop technologies that enhance existing products or enable new products of Sharp.

 

Desired Skills and Knowledge Include:

? Audio enhancement and processing

? Computer vision (2-D and 3-D)

? Pattern recognition and statistical inference

? Human visual system models

? Video streaming over IP networks

? Error resilience and error concealment for video communication

? Video encoder optimization, e.g., rate control, mode selection, and fast motion estimation

? Video transcoding between different standards, bit rates, frame rates, or resolutions.
