Job Requirements and Description

 

PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution and a minimum of 5 years engineering experience is required.  Research in advanced rocket combustion development is required.  Experience in high temperature fuel/materials testing with hydrogen is required.  Experience with development of magnetohydrodynamic augmented propulsion and hypersonic shockwave control is highly desired.  Excellent planning, organizing, scheduling and resource allocation skills required.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and strong team commitment and customer relations skills required.

 

Other Duties:

 

Perform design/development and test engineering functions in support of high-temperature materials testing and propulsion component development.  Specific engineering tasks include, but are not limited to, design analyses of special test equipment, development of detailed drawings, coordination of manufacturing/fabrication activities, coordination of hardware assembly and test preparations, development of detailed test plans, and participation in test operations.  These activities will be in support of projects associated with arc-heater facility development, hot hydrogen materials development, magnetohydrodynamic augmented propulsion demonstration experiments, hypersonic shockwave control demonstration experiments, and advanced rocket combustion development.  Prepare technical reports and presentations reflecting the results of engineering studies, analyses, and design.  Prepare technical presentations concerning technical status, procurements, requirements, and schedule compliance.  Carry out assigned duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with MSFC safety policies.  Report existing or potentially hazardous situations and close calls and assist in eliminating these conditions.  May direct the work of a few engineers or designers, drafters, engineering associates, technicians, or technical writers on assigned work.  Provide field liaison interfacing with machine shops, vendors, assembly/installation crews, etc.
