Application Engineer - 31205

Position Profile Support and maintain Scientific/Engineering applications infrastructure that encompasses all product design software applications. Work closely with Engineering Design Teams who are dependant on the stability and functionality of these applications to meet project deadlines and milestones. Application support includes proactive planning of application usage and the understanding of Engineer workflows and processes. Application maintenance includes managing the costs and coordinating system changes with IS.

 

Analyze/resolve engineering tool problems by gathering, assessing, and analyzing the data from Engineers and Designers and analyzing the system environment to find core problem and creating documentation of the resolution and/or workflows.

Manage Engineer tools and applications by structuring applications on hardware infrastructure, configuring application accessibility, integrating applications, managing license information, coordinating new releases and documenting configurations.

Negotiate new or revised vendor software contracts by working with outside vendors, functional managers and supplier development to create new contract and by executing purchase orders.

Establish Application standards, best practices and training by coordinating with Engineers and Designers on developing tool standards and methodologies to be used in all groups by working with the internal functional group and the outside vendor to schedule timely training. Set up, maintain and manage schedule for R&D training room.

Research new software and hardware technologies by gathering, assessing, and analyzing the data from several sources. Attend conferences that discuss and demonstrate new technologies in a specific field.

Coordinate IS and R&D initiatives by working with IS system administrators on a weekly basis to asses how current initiatives might impact application infrastructures and R&D projects. Communicate to IS current R&D application infrastructure change that could impact IS infrastructure.

Coordinate data management initiatives by gathering, assessing, and analyzing the workflows and requirements of the Engineering functional area to access and secure their data. Work with IS to setup systems to maintain user access accounts and workflows on the system.

 

Position Qualifications Bachelor's degree plus 2-5 years of related work experience with a good understanding of specified functional area, or Master's degree with 0-2 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Additional Information BS or BA degree, preferably in CS, MIS or related technical field plus 2-5 years experience in the IS field. Ability to learn quickly and adapt to meet the needs of a fast-paced environment required. Strong oral and written communication skills, customer focus, and teamwork are also required. Technical skills includes: Unix administration, web architecture, performance tuning, capacity planning, and security skills. Experience in application development methodologies and operational support experience also a plus. Responsible for analyzing, installing, configuring, maintaining, Advanced Patient Management development server environments. An ideal candidate would have over two years experience in a high availability setting with the following technologies: IBM WebSphere Application Server, Computer Associates Siteminder, SunOne LDAP, F5 BigIP, and Sun Solaris. This role will participate in a light on call pager rotation.
