Summary:

Provides applications support for photonic instruments for internal and external customers.  Applications support includes re-creation of customer configuration, troubleshooting, and issue resolution either over the phone or by email or at the customer site.  Internal customers may include product managers, sales engineers, service engineers, and development engineers.  External customers include both standard and OEM customers of Newport's photonic products.  This position is also responsible for development and documentation of applications in the form of application notes or technical notes, product testing, creation of trade show demonstrations, and training of application and sales engineers. 

 

Knowledge/Skills/Requirements:

? Bachelors degree in engineering required; MS preferred.  Studies must include physics and optics.

? Must have 1 to 3 years experience working with various types of lasers (either in work environment or lab/research)

? Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

? Excellent interpersonal skills and a desire to work within customer service / sales environment.

? Analytical problem solving and troubleshooting skills. 

? Experience with programming in the following is highly desirable:  LabView, Visual Basic, C++, or .Net. 

? Must be a results-oriented, self-starter, and be comfortable in a fast-paced environment.

? Working knowledge of MS Office; desirable to have knowledge of Pivotal and SAP.
