Assistant City Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under general direction of the Assistant Director of Public Works, assists in the management and direction of activities and operations of the Town which require the expertise of a civil engineer, including airport projects, park construction, drainage projects, structure maintenance, water and sewer utilities, and other public works projects. Manages activities associated with development operations including plat and plan review. Responsible for administration of engineering and construction contracts, and inspection of capital improvement construction projects. Assigns work tasks to subordinates, oversees completion of tasks, and evaluates performance. Manages engineering archives; inspects all phases of infra structural improvements constructed by developers; assists in short and long-rang planning for public works; prepares engineering and construction contracts; recommends consultants and contractors for Town projects; prepares and presents both oral and written reports and computer spreadsheets for the City Manager and the Council; meets with contractors. Drives to locations and physically oversees capital improvement programs, contracted field-survey crews, and construction inspectors. Writes specifications; reviews plans; coordinates schedules for architects, engineers and contractors; interfaces with contractors, officials, public agencies, and other departments to achieve completed projects. Coordinates the acquisition of rights-of-way projects and easements for capital projects.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



All positions require a clear background, clear pre-employment drug screen, valid Texas driver?s license and safe driving record.



Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.

Four years progressively responsible engineering experience.

Comprehensive knowledge of the various phases of public-works engineering projects: investigation, survey, design, drafting, construction, inspection, and documentation.

Ability to conduct persuasive negotiations on behalf of the Town; write clear and concise technical and professional reports and specifications, and present them orally.

Ability to calculate manpower, material, and time-costs required to complete projects.

Familiarity with word processing and computer spreadsheet programs.

Must be customer service driven.

Certifications - Registered professional engineer in Texas.
