Associate Engineer: Structural

Systems Engineering Group (SEG) - Engineering Technology Center (ETC)

DUTIES: Develop and analyze large degree-of-freedom finite element models of complex, composite structures of US navy ships and submarines for Navy ship and submarine programs. Analyses performed may include static analyses, modal analyses, dynamic analyses, DDAM analyses, non-linear transient analyses, analyses simulating fluid-structure interaction, and/or radar cross-section analyses. Deliverables may include test procedures and test reports, extension requests, analysis reports, specification change proposals, engineering revision requests, assembly, arrangement and installation drawings, system diagrams, etc. Opportunity to attend on-site testing.

QUALIFICATIONS: BS Degree required (advanced degree desired) in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or other engineering disciplines with exposure to the design and study of complex structures. Seeking highly technical individual with a 3.2 or better GPA.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Travel may be required to accomplish duties.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ideal candidate has experience building finite element (FE) models and a knowledge of the following FE analysis programs: NASTRAN, FEMAP, DYNA. Familiarity with analysis codes GEMINI, SAINT AUTOCAD, and MECHANICAL DESKTOP desired, but not required. Familiarity with composite structures and advanced materials desired, but not required.
