MWH Natural Resources, Industry and Infrastructure is currently seeking qualified applicants for an Entry Level Structural Engineer in (Civil/Mechanical) Chicago, IL.
In this position, the applicant will perform assignments designed to develop professional work knowledge and abilities, requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks. Limited exercise of judgment is required on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives. Initially CAD (Computer-Aided Drafting) work will also be required as a training tool.
Activities will include the structural analysis, design and detailing of water resource structures including the preparation of drawings and specifications. Applicant will need to be familiar with the analysis and design of various materials including reinforced concrete, masonry, and steel, though emphasis will be placed on structural steel design for hydromechanical equipment, including gates, trashracks, and related items for hydroelectric projects around the world. In addition, applicant will assist technical staff in field activities including site inspections, shop inspections, monitoring and other fieldwork. Applicant may receive OSHA training for confined space entry to assist with tunnel inspections. Travel will be required.
Supervisory Responsibility: Minimal to start, but may grow depending on skill and performance.
BS in Civil/Structural or Mechanical/Structural Engineering or applicable field at a minimum. MS preferred. Professional registration or EIT a plus.
