 Automation Systems Engineer  

 Job Purpose

 

Implement and maintain World Class Manufacturing projects at the new Moundsville W.V. manufacturing site.  Work with both the N.A. Satellite Team and the Moundsville Project Team on meeting or exceeding their goals.  Document and organize production, processing methods, and controls to meet customer operations standards in the most cost effective manner.  Through the application of engineering fundamentals and advanced process control tools, ensure processes are centered, capable and in control, reduce process variations and resolve special causes of variation.

 Accountabilities include

 

? Areas of responsibility include the input for design or development of new process control systems; developing and coordinating implementation of World Class Manufacturing (WCM) projects which contribute substantially to plant profitability; implementation and support of PLC-based control systems; support for and utilization of PC-based supervisory control systems/SCADA to prepare and coordinate operational information and data for the plant management and project teams; support of data communications networks and instrumentation within the plant.

? Has latitude for independent judgment and discretion to execute primary objectives within established policies, procedures and practices.  Secures prior approval for unusual or out of policy actions.

? Internal contacts include heads of production, maintenance and quality, etc and securing appropriate resources to plan and implement controls projects.

? External contacts include Technical Services, consultants and suppliers to determine the compatibility of other systems, products and personnel as they may apply to WCM and Controls.

? Typical problem solving situations include analyzing operating problems, developing solutions and leading the implementation of corrective action; using advanced controls tools to reduce process variations and downtime, identifying and resolving special cause variation in the process, and participating in ?SWAT? teams to resolve critical process and product problems with customers and vendors.

? Maintains records of plant and individual equipment performance.

? Prepares data sheets, diagrams and flow charts needed for the correct and efficient operation of the plant equipment.

? Develops and maintains standard operating procedures and work instructions.

? Uses advanced PLC / Controls tools to reduce process variations.

? Identifies and resolves special causes of variation in the process.

? Coordinates changes in the production process.

? Analyzes operating problems, develops solutions and leads with implementation of corrective action.

? Ensures full documentation of all projects and systems as built.

? Receives and collects, interprets and extrapolates data from the production process to monitor current performances against established baselines.

? Makes recommendations to improve efficiencies.

? Provides weekly status reports of projects to Plant Management.

? Other related duties and responsibilities.

 Qualifications and Background

 

Requires a Bachelor?s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent training and experience, which will provide the necessary knowledge of the laws, regulations, practices and procedures impacting a manufacturing facility plus 5 or more year?s experience of applied professional experience in the development and implementation of PC-based supervisory and PLC-based control systems.  Must be capable of preparing calculations, specifications and drawings to meet design requirements.  A comprehensive knowledge of the practices, procedures and regulations associated with process control technology is essential.  Must be able to work effectively with corporate and contractor personnel as well as plant maintenance and operations.

Preferred Qualifications - Previous automation and controls experience in a continuous process

industry is preferred.

Working Conditions - Travel to other facilities will be required, temporary relocation at other facilities while the plant is being constructed may also be necessary.  Occasional shift assignments, working hours will vary based upon needs.  Office and manufacturing plant environment, which may include exposure to industrial solvents, hot, cold conditions.

Physical Demands - May be required to traverse and navigate stairs and confined spaces.  Travel would normally be by airline and require driving rental cars.  Some lifting may also be necessary
