BMD Systems Engineer / Analyst

Description:
Perform systems engineering and analyses (i.e., concept definition, concept feasibility and trade studies, requirements development and verification, performance assessment, and simulation maintenance and development) for weapons systems designed to defeat ballistic missile threats. Duties: Assess current and future ballistic missile defense weapon systems capabilities, and develop, maintain and/or use medium-fidelity engagement models and simulations to define concepts, develop requirements and predict system performance. Develop, modify, and improve models and simulations representing weapon system elements such as sensors, communications, and missiles. Lead or participate in systems engineering working groups chartered to conduct analyses, define requirements, and recommend selected concepts and solutions. Deliver formal presentations to sponsors and design agents to communicate proposed concepts, solutions and analysis results. Produce documentation to capture all relevant systems engineering tasks including technical recommendations. Participate in systems engineering efforts including system concept definition, execution of system-level trade studies, and one-on-one and many-on-many system engagement analyses and assessments. Design, implement and/or test new sensor, communications and missile-related concepts and algorithms for engagement-level/medium-fidelity simulations. Lead and/or participate in BMD system requirements development and verification activities. Interface and coordinate with program sponsors, design contractors, and other Navy laboratories.

Qualifications:
Required: M.A./M.S. degree in Electrical, Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or equivalent. Minimum five-year experience with ballistic missile defense systems, and strong interest in systems engineering and analysis. Ability and willingness to work with contractor team and to interact with sponsors and APL staff. Proficiency in modeling and simulation and knowledge of C computer language. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Desired: Team leadership experience and willingness to work in a team-oriented and dynamic environment. Familiarity with the Navy?s AEGIS Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) program and especially the AEGIS weapons (AWS) and STANDARD Missile-3 systems. Experience with Java and MATLAB.
