Business Process Engineer

 

. I.  INTRODUCTION

 

The business process engineer is concerned with the planning, design, analysis, improvement, and installation of integrated systems to improve the effectiveness and profitability of Artech. The work requires application of specialized professional knowledge and skill in the mathematical, physical, and social sciences together with the principles and methods of engineering analysis and design to specify, predict, and evaluate the results to be obtained from such systems. An extensive knowledge of IT systems design, business process engineering and ERP applications is required.

 

II. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The business process engineer advises management on such matters as establishing organizational patterns and systems and procedures, planning flow of work, establishing work controls, planning and controlling quality of a process, establishing cost and budgetary controls, and measuring the overall effectiveness of the organization, methods, systems, and procedures.

 III. FACTOR LEVELS

 

Factor 1 - Knowledge Required by the Position

 

Mastery of business process engineering to the extent that the engineer is capable of applying new developments and experienced judgment to solve novel or obscure problems. Possesses the ability to extend and modify existing techniques. Experience in ERP applications and implementation is a key factor. The BPE is responsible for defining, defending and achieving the ROI's for given projects

 

 

 Factor 2 - Supervisory Controls

.

The employee has responsibility for planning, designing and carrying out programs, projects, studies, or other work independently. The BPE is responsible for defining, defending and achieving the ROI's for given projects

 

 

Results of the work are considered technically authoritative and are normally accepted without significant change. If the work should be reviewed, the review concerns such matters as fulfillment of program objectives, effect of advice and influence of the overall program, or the contribution to the advancement of technology.

 

Factor 3 - Guidelines

 

Working chiefly under broad and general policy statements, the business process engineer exercises considerable judgment and ingenuity in interpreting and adapting guides that exist and in developing new and improved hypotheses, approaches, or concepts not previously tested or reported in the literature of the field.

 Factor 4 - Complexity

 

Assignments are of such breadth, diversity, and intensity that they involve many, varied complex features. The work requires that the business process engineer be especially versatile and innovative in adapting, modifying, or making compromises with existing methods to originate new techniques or criteria.

 Factor 5 - Scope and Effect

 

Serving as a consultant or project coordinator, the business process engineer provides expert advice and guidance to Artech senior management covering a broad range of business process activities.

 

 Factor 6 - Personal Contacts

Personal contacts include a variety of Artech professionals and executives and outside organizations.

 Factor 7 - Purpose of Contacts

The purpose of contacts is to justify, defend, negotiate or settle highly significant or controversial business process matters.

 

 Factor 8 ? Education and Experience

 

The business process engineer should have 5 to 10 years? experience in business process engineering including experience in the design and implementation of ERP systems for a service business. 

 

A minimum BS in industrial engineering or similar field is required.
