Business Systems Development Manager

SUMMARY

Information Systems Professional who manages a staff of software developers working in a team environment as well as managing application development projects.  Responsible for the oversight of teams involved in analysis, design, programming, debug, testing and documentation of Client/Server and Web-based applications.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):

 

? Provides the Information Systems resources necessary to support the ongoing needs of the division functions for the design, testing, implementation, and processing of diverse business, engineering and scientific systems.

 

? Ensures project scope, deliverables and timelines are acceptable.  Oversees technical components of the project lifecycle.  Work with Project Management to track and report progress of tasks.

 

? Strong cross-functional coordination is required.  Must coordinate input from other department managers in the development of Business Systems to ensure comprehensive, user friendly interfaces and databases that meets the Business Requirements of the management team.

 

? Participates on various steering committees and such other teams as may be established by division management to plan, organize and install major systems projects.

 

? Confers with user representatives when necessary to assist in resolving procedural difficulties, clarifying their responsibility and objectives and establishing problem definitions.

 

? Directs department procedures and controls and ensures that division and corporate standards are maintained to provide control over the development of computer applications.

 

? Formulates, and recommends approval of, proposed operating expense and capital budgets, with appropriate documentation for the Information Systems section and the division.

 

? Responsible for the day to day activities as it relates to staffing, training of personnel, appraisal of employee performances and recommends change in status and wage adjustments

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages Information Systems Programming Team.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Technical proficiency in Visual Basic, C++, Java and/or other web-based interfaces/programming languages is required.  Good understanding of databases and directories.  Previous experience managing a development team is required.  Project leader experience and familiarity with project management methodologies is required.  Experience with an ERP system in a manufacturing environment is required.

 EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor?s Degree in Computer Science or Business Administration (preferred) or equivalent education/work experience, plus 8-10 years progressive experience in systems design and programming in a manufacturing environment. ERP experience preferred. Must be capable of managing and motivating professional employees and possess leadership, communicative skills and sound judgment.

 LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyzes financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers. Ability to effectively present information to top management and verbally communicate with customers.

 MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to resolve problems involving several variations and effectively negotiate with customers

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The incumbent is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25-50 pounds.

 WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually quite high, requiring hearing protection while on the manufacturing floor.
