CAD Drafter (1708)

PROJECT OVERVIEW:
Provide project design civil engineering services for highways and bridges on a large-scale LaDOTD highway development projects north of Baton Rouge. The project is a design/build project involving engineering design, review of construction documents and preparation of as-built drawings.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Performs basic to moderately design/drafting assignments requiring a working knowledge of design/drafting standards, practices, and techniques. Under the general direction of engineers, the incumbent at this level typically takes engineering notes, specifications, rough sketches, etc., and formalizes them into working drawings. Assignments are designed to develop a practical knowledge of highway and bridge design and details.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Utilizes a CAD workstation to prepare engineering drawings consisting of basic arrangements, layouts, details, isometrics, etc., from rough sketches and/or from general engineering and design information according to established standards and procedures.

Compiles data and performs dimensional and routine calculations required for the preparation of drawings. Understands how to read orthographic (2D) and/or isometric (3D) designs and supplier/manufacturer drawings.

Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate, such as organization of and maintenance of drawing files and logs.


PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma (or equivalent) is preferred, as well as 2-4 years of relevant experience.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
Requirements include PC literacy, a working knowledge of CAD, and a working knowledge of other computer software used to complete design assignments. Experience using AutoCAD and MicroStation is required.
