Chief System Engineer

Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation is a world leader in the design and manufacture of advanced helicopters for commercial, industrial and military uses. The responsibilities of the Chief System Engineer include, but are not limited to:

Requirements Management, Risk Management, System Integration and Issue Resolution, Trade Study activities and Technical Review coordination in support of one or more platforms; leadership in process implementation; and personnel management.

Requirements Management will include leading the analysis, decomposition and allocation of high-level requirements. Requirements management is typically performed using the DOORS database application.

Risk management will include risk identification, risk assessment and risk mitigation plan definition of system level risks on one or more platforms.

System integration activities will include leading the resolution and clarification of those areas where an understanding of inter-segment and inter-IPT requirements and responsibilities is lacking. Once problem areas are identified, the chief system engineer will refine, clarify and communicat the necessary requirements as needed to resolve these concerns.

The Chief System Engineer will direct trade studies as design details emerge and alternative configurations must be explored. Alternative configurations will be identified and impact statements will be gathered from all affected parties and integrated into a system level trade study that considers technical, schedule, and cost impacts.

The Chief System Engineer will lead verification planning activities, and coordinate Technical Reviews such as System Requirements Reviews, Preliminary and Critical Design Reviews.

This job requires an in depth understanding of the operation and interrelationships of aircraft systems; a strong appreciation for the impact that configuration changes may have on performance related attributes, cost and schedule; and strong communication and leadership skills which allow relevant data to be collected, integrated, and distilled for decision making purposes.


A BS degree in an engineering discipline is required. Formal education in System Engineering and / or a MS degree is a plus.

10 - 15 years of experience in the design and / or test of aerospace systems is desired.

PC skills, the ability to champion processes, and the ability to accommodate changing priorities on a daily basis are a must.
