Engineer

 

Responsibilities:

 

* ENGINEERING:  Assist foremen with the early design proposals pertaining to constructability reviews. Participate in field reviews and site walkdowns. Represent construction with all engineering activities. Create and help coordinate engineering design and scope change submittals. Promote safety in design, implementation of construction projects and daily work activities.


* CONSTRUCTION PLANNING & COORDINATION:  Assist in preparation of budget and construction level estimates, schedule and project descriptions. Review permit conditions for compliance with work plan/project description. Assure long/short lead materials are on site as required.


* FIELD CONSTRUCTION SUPPORT:  Monitor construction costs and provides status. Assure as-built drawings are completed and submitted. Support in the development of clearance procedures, tunnel entry and confined space entry procedures, pre-job safety plans, and project description.


* CONTRACT ADMINISTRATION SUPPORT:  Support contract administration in preparing specifications, bid reviews, and awarding contracts. Monitor contractor invoicing.

 

Essential/Required:

* Safety-minded, conscientious attitude

* Positions involve both office and field work 

* Ability to walk over steep and/or uneven terrain

* Ability to climb up and down stairs and ladders, both indoors and outdoors

* Ability to work inside operating powerhouses around loud, rotating machinery and electrical equipment and/or outside around construction equipment

* Ability to work in cramped quarters in and around switchgear and electrical panels

* Ability to work outside with potential exposure to insects and plants (mosquitoes, bees, ticks, spiders, snakes, poison oak, etc.), as well as environmental (sun, rain, snow, wind, heat, cold) exposure

* Ability to inspect underground tunnels, working in vaults or other confined spaces

* Ability to access elevated locations, utilizing fall protection equipment (ropes, harnesses, etc.) as appropriate

* Ability to work around and over water

* Ability to travel on narrow, rough mountain roads, and/or in snowy, muddy, or icy conditions

* Ability to work around, and/or flying in helicopters

* Ability to work some overtime including weekdays, weekends and holidays

* Ability to travel on average 50% of your work days, including possible overnight

stays

* Valid driver license with good driving record

* Must have a positive, team-oriented attitude

* Ability to use office equipment including phones, copier, fax, and computer

* Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel etc) and MS Project programs

* Strong oral (in person and by phone) and written communication skills

* BS degree in civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering from accredited school
