Coated Product Metallurgist

Severstal North America, Inc. (?SNA?) ranks as the fourth largest integrated steel company in the United States. The company is located in Dearborn, Michigan. SNA produces high quality flat-rolled carbon steel products--hot rolled, cold rolled, electrogalvanized and hot-dip galvanized--for customers in the automotive industry as well as for customers in the converter, service center and other related markets.  To increase its line of value-added products, SNA has formed a number of joint ventures with other steel companies. 

 

Position Responsibilities: 

?  Process optimization aimed at cost reduction and quality improvement

?  Use of statistical methods to optimize mill process parameters for product and process capability improvement

?  Control and disposition of non-conforming material

?  Conduct physical of produced material to judge its acceptability based on customer specifications

?  Use of automated inspection systems

?  Root cause analysis of non-conforming material and customers returns; documenting of said root causes and their corrective actions in the appropriate staff members

?  Attendance at regular meetings to review quality performance, root cause analyses, corrective actions and product capabilities

?  Follow company policy regarding all health, safety and environmental procedures

?  All other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree in Metallurgy or Material Science preferred or Bachelors Degree in a physical Science or engineering fieldAt least 2 years of experience with hot dip processingCandidate must possess knowledge of statistical problem solving methods and have experience with automotive quality systemsCandidate must have knowledge and use of Microsoft and statistical software suites such as MinitabAbility to manage crisis and multiple tasks
