Our applications engineering team orchestrates extensive, leading technology across broad markets. Enabled through Arrow's many supplier partners and our current expertise in architectural and design consultation, you will help pull the pieces together. Your active involvement in creating ideas and solutions for customers, and solving many design challenges will provide a rewarding experience. Many will depend on your talent and success.

Job Description
- Provide:
o Real-time backup support for field engineers and sales reps
o Comprehensive, alternative solutions within area of expertise for customers
o Coordination of subject matter experts (internal and external)
o Ongoing recommendations (equipment, structure, ideas, etc.) for effective customer support
- Understand and deliver full gamut of solutions for applications, including tools, OS, software libraries, hardware, 3rd parties
- Organize and maintain extensive information on current solutions
- Deliver ideas appropriate for specific applications swiftly and professionally
- Handle customer requests through local field personnel on behalf of customers, working aggressively to exceed customer turnaround expectations
- Help develop and execute successful demand creation strategies for Arrow and our suppliers
- Publish white papers detailing or highlighting industry trends and solutions to common design challenges
- Interface and coordinate with a number of Arrow internal resources as well as supplier product and strategic marketing contacts
- Provide expertise and assistance in a variety of early design services to accelerate customer time to market and provide them with a competitive edge
- Build relationships with industry subject matter experts to increase personal knowledge and transfer to Arrow field and customers
- Help educate and maintain subject matter expertise amongst Arrow's FAEs
- Attend key supplier training events (some travel required) and participate in key supplier online training relating to vertical market

Requirements
- BSEE or MSEE preferred
- Min. 3 years within area of expertise
- 5 to 7 years overall design experience preferred
- Basic understanding of semiconductor industry market dynamics
- Able to objectively craft, compare and contrast multiple solutions per application
- Expertise on multiple OS and hardware platforms within vertical market
- Vertical market software architectural knowledge required (tools, OS, drivers, stacks, etc.)
- Able to generate proof of concept solutions to customer specs
o Code optimization
o Algorithm development
o System architecture
- High customer service ethic, including interpersonal skills and enthusiasm
- Thrive on new technology while staying grounded in practical solutions
- Excellent verbal and written (including email) communication skills, etiquette
- Ability to understand customer needs, probe for answers, then clearly and effectively advocate appropriate solutions.
- Ability to relate to design engineers across many various applications and disciplines
- Ability to prioritize based on opportunities and effectively multitask are a must
- Strong organizational skills
- Superior degree of resourcefulness in solving complex design challenges
- Database, search engine and Microsoft Office proficiency

Communications
- Knowledge across many or most of the major communication segments
o Switching and Routing technologies
o Enterprise, and/or Metro Access
o Metro and/or Core Transport
o Storage technologies
- Specific Knowledge of end-to-end system architectures and design in communications and storage for Enterprise, Access, Metro Optical Transport, Storage Area Networking
o Access technologies including Passive Optical Networks and xDSL
o Ethernet Switches, MACs, and physical layer transceivers, drivers, software
o High Speed Optical System design up to 10G/OC-192, including SONET mapping and framing structures
o Storage technologies: RAID/FiberChannel/SATA/SAS/FCIP/SCSI/iSCSI hardware and protocols
- Knowledge of various standards and protocols:
o Networking standards and protocols including: TDM, T/E, ATM, VoIP, IP over ATM, QOS, Ethernet, TCP/IP Layer 1-4, SONET/SDH, xDSL, PON
o Domestic and international telecommunications standards, such as IEEE, T1/ANSI standard and ITU-T standards
o PCI, PCI-X, PCIe, GbE, SRIO, Hypertransport, SDIO, PC Cards, PCMCIA, Sonet, ADSL, UTOPIA, Security (PKA, AES, 3DES, etc.), USB, LVDS
