Controls Designer

Description: Controls Designer This position can be located in either Birmingham, AL or Atlanta, GA.

Summary of Position Duties:

In this position you will be responsible for the development of I/O databases, development of functional control diagrams, and development of DCS configuration and graphics. Responsibilities will also include field checkout, start-up & tuning of utility boiler control systems and associated systems such as flue gas scrubbers (FGD) systems and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems. Responsibilities also include travel on short notice to provide support to system generating plants in resolving instrumentation, control system and process control problems.

Education & Work Experience:

2 or 4 year technical degree is preferred or comparable work experience.

Minimum of 5 years experience in the area of instrumentation and controls is required.

Experience in the following is required: maintenance of DCS control systems and plant instrumentation, DCS configuration & graphic development, PLC programming, digital communications, commissioning of control system installations (loop checks and functional testing) and process control tuning.

Knowledge of utility boiler control systems, auxiliary equipment and associated control strategies is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Candidate should possess knowledge of design and operation of utility power plant systems. Candidate must be able to lead field control system efforts and possess field control and instrumentation problem solving skills. Candidate must possess good computer skills.

Other Requirements:

Overnight travel is required. Also, travel on short notice will be required to provide plant support for process control problems.
