Cost Engineering Program Manager

Summary:      Primary responsibility is to understand cost impacts of engineering design alternatives and work with engineering and ODMs to minimize product and BOM costs. In addition will work with operations to manage NRE and tooling expenditures and with finance to comprehend budget impacts (position will dotted line to finance).

 

Essential Responsibilities:      Works closely with engineering and product management to comprehend the cost implications of various design alternatives and proactively finds opportunities to improve product costs.Works with ODMs and other vendors to reduce BOM, tooling, and NRE costs. Identifies cost-related problems, determines the root cause or opportunity for improvement, and leads strategic initiatives to drive down costs. Works with product management teams to achieve a realistic understanding of product costs and contributes to the product ROI evaluation performed by product management teams. Works with finance to standardize the processes for communicating cost information between departments.

 

Requirements/Qualifications/Skills:      Requires experience in engineering cost management as well as strategic finance / decision support. Prefer someone with strong engineering skills coupled with a financial / accounting background. Prior experience working with ODMs preferred. In additions, should have the following:

 Excellent project management skills including the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to deal comfortably and confidently with all levels of management. Able to work effectively in a fast moving and constantly changing environment. Willing to do limited International travel.

 

Education/Certification:      Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Economics or similar field.
