Data Center Engineer
Job Purpose:
This position is responsible for the successful installation, configuration and support of vendor supplied hardware, software and operating systems for MSI?s clients. This includes but is not limited to presale activities, system assurances, installations and client-assigned problem resolution.
Essential Job Duties:
1. Performs consultative presale activities for Data Center facilities to include proposal development demonstrating in depth understanding of more complex facilities projects, which involve physical site, power, environmentals, cabling, monitoring, management, security and disaster recovery.
2.Leads IT Facilities Assessments by establishing and coordinating assessment team, leading interview sessions, documenting data and finalize requirements, critically assessing the current environment, developing solution options, investment analyses, creating final presentation deliverables, delivering final presentation and working with customer to define next steps.
3.Provides project management and sub-contractor coordination services to ensure a complete turnkey solution has been implemented within the MSI and customer specifications. Creates and maintains project plans, change requests, topology drawings, customer acceptance documentation, project billing and any other project related documentation). Facilitates communication between other project team members.
4. Leads product installations and configurations and transfers applicable knowledge to client Installations and configurations to include physical installation of systems/network racks, UPS systems, rack PDUs, data and power cables, patch panels, cable management systems, raised flooring systems, environmental monitoring and video surveillance systems, SNMP/web cards for facilities hardware, KVM switches and KMM console kits.
5.Conducts project assurance meetings by reviewing solution design, identifying installation requirements, detecting any risks and identifying a mitigation plan.
6.Researches new technical products emerging in specialty field and advises MSI management team on benefits/opportunities related to new product. Responsible for an in-depth knowledge of product capable of providing training to other engineer team members.
7.Performs account management duties for assigned client to include researching and solving problems, providing technical support and maintaining client relationships. Involves other employees in finding a solution, as necessary.
8.Reviews and edits on an as needed basis, technical manuals for standard install processes written by Level I, II and III engineers related to specialties and disciplines of the job.
9.May perform other duties as required and assigned.
Job Requirements:
? Bachelor?s degree in Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or technical related field preferred and/or minimum of 7-9 years experience in similar environment.
? One certification from the following list: APC Sales Consultant, APC Sales Professional, APC Design Consultant
? One specialized certification from the following list: APC Design Professional, Liebert Design Professional, Certified Power Quality Engineer
? Proven experience of leading a minimum of five projects within specialized certification.
?Proven ability to effectively present sales presentations and demonstrate hardware and software offerings.
?Demonstrates strong leadership and management ? must have previously led project teams or assisted on a minimum of three projects within specialized certification and managed project lifecycle.
?Proven ability to effectively present sales presentations and demonstrate hardware and software offerings. Ability to understand complex technical and selling solutions.
?Strong verbal and written communication skills to include skills in persuasion and negotiation of critical issues.
?Ability to perform task significantly beyond technical knowledge level for skills in specific discipline or technology.
?Knowledge of vendor supplied brands.
?Ability to travel to client sites approximately 40-50% of time.
? Skills in prioritizing multiple-tasks, and research/problem solving.
? Ability to perform advanced installation and configuration services required.
? Ability to work with Microsoft office products and standard drawing packages (Visio or AutoCAD)
