Design Engineer III-V FL758
SUMMARY This position normally receives limited instructions on routine work and new assignments. Problems and engineering assignments are generally of more complex scope, where judgment to solve design problems is used with less oversight and guidance from management. Using sophisticated internally developed software, the design group produces state-of-the-art bandpass filters from 10 MHz to 2 GHz for a variety of systems. Although intermediate frequency filters for CDMA-based systems are a large percentage of current designs, other markets for TriQuint filters include GSM, WLAN, WLL, LMDS, GPS, WCDMA, and CDMA 2000. In addition, TriQuint has designed numerous high-reliability devices that are found on various military aircraft, telecommunication satellites and space exploration probes. For each of the hundreds of designs TriQuint initiates every year, an engineer begins with a technical proposal to customers. After establishing the best design approach, the engineer optimizes the filter's frequency response within the computer model and generates the physical layout for a new photomask (SAW filters are created with a photolithographic process similar to semiconductors). Later, the engineer verifies the design by evaluating statistical data from a pre-production run. The design engineer also manages the final preparation for high volume manufacturing. Throughout the development process, frequent communication with customers as well as with TriQuint's research and development and manufacturing departments is typical. An understanding of RF design, analog communications and digital communications is important. Knowledge of digital signal processing concepts is also useful. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Components: Work includes the design, fabrication, modification and evaluation of an electronic apparatus, components or circuitry for use in electronics equipment and devices. Analyzes equipment to establish operating data, and conduct experimental tests. Work requires a high degree of creative ability, engineering skill, and independent judgment. Coordinates activities necessary to complete all electronic engineering activities with high accountability for results. Coordinates electronic engineering activities of major magnitude. Includes design-to-cost responsibilities and the management of project or program budgets. Serves as a primary technical interface to subcontractors (or customers on complex programs at advanced levels). Other duties include cost and budget responsibility, project responsibility, production support, interdepartmental communication (e.g., Operations Support, Engineering and Research & Development, Sales & Marketing) and customer interfacing. Electrical: Design electrical components, products and systems for in-house and customer purposes, may confer with research and development and other engineering personnel to prepare design specifications. Provide technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations that affect long-range plant and product engineering planning. Analyzes product specifications and performance requirement to determine designs that can be produced by existing manufacturing equipment and methods. Must have experience and /or course work in the following areas: RF/Microwave, communications, DSP, and/or microelectronics. Ability to design for and measure noise figure, gain compression, phase noise, and intercept point in modules and subsystems is desirable. Modules: Responsible for transmitter/receiver module design for handsets to be used in GSM and other cellular and PCS applications. Experience in the design and simulation of RF modules or handset front-end design is essential. Familiarity with handset operation for the major communications standards (GSM, CDMA, TDMA and their derivatives such as EDGE and CDMA2000) is required. A strong background in digital communications and experience with RF circuit design is essential. Responsibilities will include the simulation, design and demonstration of various front-end module architectures for 2G, 2.5G and 3G markets. The simulation tools used will be ADS, Momentum or SONNET and AutoCAD; an understanding of these simulation platforms is preferred. Works closely with the module team members in simulating, demonstrating and prototyping novel RF module products that will bring improvements in efficiency and cost benefits to the marketplace while also working closely with the high volume production team to transition the module products to a high volume manufacturing environment. The integration of RF components into a single module, developing receiver & transmitter integrated front ends; including SAWs, LPFs, Diplexers, Switches, LNA?s and PA?s. Performing RF circuit design, substrate layout and routing, EM simulation and optimization. Utilizes advanced RF design tools to perform design, simulation, prototyping and optimization. Experience with T/R modules/general microwave circuits & networks.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE BSEE plus five years required, or MSEE plus two years experience. ? Experience front-end module designer with active circuits such as RF switches, GaAs PA SAW/BAW filter etc. ? Working knowledge of CMOS circuit design and physical layout. Board level troubleshooting experience of RF circuitry. ? RF/Microwave knowledge and experience with RF modeling tools such as ADS, HFSS etc. ? Working experience of RF test equipment and test plans. ? Handset design experience desired. ? Organized and good communication skill. ? BSEE with 7 years of experience, MSEE with 5 years of experience preferred.
