Design Engineer (Software)

DALSA Digital Imaging Product Software group has an immediate opening for a Design Software Engineer. Reporting to the manager of Product Software, the successful candidate's responsibilities will include:

Primary Responsibilities:
? Drive all technical aspects and provide solutions to embedded and PC software development towards production release by the target date.
? Follow a rigorous software development process, perform embedded and PC software design, C/C++ implementation and testing to ensure complete, thorough, and reliable machine vision product design that works together as a system. Work with other firmware and hardware designers to create the system level design.
? Negotiate embedded and PC software requirements, project scope and deadlines to an amicable conclusion with the project team.
? Identify and overcome unclear direction or unanswered questions critical to progress. Render complicated development issues to actionable closure. Comfortably and expediently resolve design conflicts and individual views.
? Interface microprocessors to other circuitry including FPGAs and non-volatile memory. Develop and implement user programmable camera features and image analysis and manipulation algorithms.
? Serve as embedded and PC software and application technical expert for interaction, review and decision-making with project managers, marketing and other project team members.
? Sustain legacy base and provide cross product line inter-operability.
? Accurately estimate resources/schedules and deliver to plan.
? Develop imaging products with high reliability and performance requirements.

Required Capabilities:
? Demonstrate positive technical leadership that gains the respect of technical staff.
? Degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering with a minimum of five years relevant experience (imaging systems technology strongly preferred)
? Translate technology choices into product cost and performance implications. Simulate or prototype to validate or refute an adopted direction.
? Demonstrate skills in embedded and PC software development which accelerate product and application development. Execute full life-cycle development, including follow-on value-add features and upgrade path.
? Produce tangible deliverables during development that logically build toward the cumulative product.
? Representative skill set: C/C++, micro-controller based device driver development, real-time operating system, Ethernet, TCP/IP, image processing technology, Windows HAL, API, DLL, etc.
? Familiar with frame grabber products from major vendors.
? Clearly and concisely communicate complex technical information both to management and to the development teams. Demonstrate excellent grasp of language, both in written and verbal presentation.
? Maintain currency with technology, standards, and competitive products and factor in the impact to development.
