Chevron Global Downstream Refining is accepting online applications for three (3) Design Engineers to be located in Los Angeles, CA. Applications will be accepted through September 30, 2006**.

Qualifications:

-Provides plant engineering support for routine daily operation of process units within the refinery. Support requires collaboration and interpersonal skills necessary to work with operations, maintenance, and technical functions within the global refining system.

-Scope/troubleshoot mechanical problems and issues, develop alternatives, and propose and implement solutions for long term reliability.

-Develops and manages engineering work orders to improve reliability and throughput of process units.

-Actively participates in the planning and execution of unit turnarounds, both planned and unplanned.

-Key job responsibilities include answering technical inquiries, making technical recommendations, providing equipment and system troubleshooting, improving designs engineering tools, and developing designs engineering procedures.

-Carries out various studies to improve plant safety, reliability and economics.

-Provides engineering analysis and evaluation of minor capital projects. In some instances, responsible for design, management and execution of minor capital projects.


BS Degree in either Mechanical, Chemical or Civil Engineering is required.

Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident

-3 to 8 years of Mechanical Design Engineering in a Refinery or Process plant environment or equivalent.



Self-motivated with the ability to originate and adapt to new ideas. Able to work without supervision. Ability to step up and take ownership of specific team efforts. Able to proactively champion technical issues and see them through to completion.

Able to plan and organize projects from inception to start up. Experience in Turnaround planing or capital project work desirable. Understanding of gated work process for projects critical. Able to handle multiple activities simultaneously.

Knowledge of the planning/business side of refinery is desirable.

Understanding of estimating tools and cost control. Must be flexible to respond to Refinery support needs as priorities change with specific business needs. Able to balance day to day support issues with longer term projects/studies.

Good written and oral communication skills. Strong ability to work well with other refinery groups in cross-functional teams. Able to communicate ideas to a wide range of groups within the refinery. Good meeting facilitation skills. Ability to teach/mentor others.

Effectively interface with operators, mechanics, supervisors, construction contractors, and management to complete projects on time and on budget to meets the business objectives. Ability to seek out customer's needs and prioritize own work accordingly.

Demonstrates role model behavior including support for including support for diversity, leadership, teamwork, and customer focus. Creates and promotes an environment of trust and teamwork through actions and own behaviors. Facilitates dialogue & possesses strong listening skills.

A basic understanding of refinery/chemical processes/equipment and understanding of the interaction between refinery units is desirable.
