Director of Business Technology Ventures

This position represents a unique opportunity to play a key role in a dynamic organization, and be part of the growing technology frontier in the south west. Arizona Technology Enterprises (AzTE) was formed three years ago to commercialize the diverse intellectual property portfolio of Arizona State University (ASU).  ASU?s Physical Sciences portfolio includes cutting edge technology in flexible displays, image analysis software, sensors, optical electronics, and renewable energy.  AzTE is becoming a national leader in technology commercialization through licensing, strategic alliances, and start-up formation.

 

The Director of Business Development ? Technology Ventures, working with the Vice President of the physical sciences portfolio, shall be responsible for commercializing the AzTE?s physical sciences portfolio in order to maximize revenue and return on investment.  This will be accomplished through a variety of marketing and business development activities including but not limited to:

 

? Determine specific external market needs and create compelling value propositions from AzTE technical portfolio

? Close revenue generating deals through licensing, start up, and/or joint venturing

? Secure venture capital and entrepreneurial participation in start up opportunities initiated by AzTE

? Initiate contact with external companies with clear technical needs met by innovations in the AzTE portfolio

? Manage internal resources to distribute technical opportunities to appropriate companies

? Leveraging existing relationships brought by the candidate with leading companies to increase deal flow

? Optimize a rich and varied technical business development pipeline through rapid triage and focus to close high value opportunities

 

This individual will be responsible for all stages of business development, from opportunity identification to close of deal.  Compensation is highly competitive and with a significant variable component determine by company and individual performance.

 

The ideal candidate will have the following background:

 An undergraduate or graduate degree in a science or engineering disciplineMBA or JD., or the equivalent related experienceThree years or more of demonstrated experience in structuring, negotiating, and closing transactions with technology-related intellectual assetsExtensive network of existing business contacts
