We are looking for a skilled Director of Mechanical Product Engineering, with a minimum of ten years hands-on technical experience in product development. The Director of MPE role is fully responsible for the leadership, direction, budget, and cross-functional interaction of the Mechanical Product Engineering Department. As Director of MPE, you will:

 
Lead, direct, and coordinate product design, modeling, drafting, record keeping, CAD administration, prototyping, and other related engineering services to support the goal of supplying reliable, high quality products to its customers.
Assure that activities of Mechanical Product Engineering are coordinated and integrated with other Service Solutions departments to provide efficient cross-functional operation.
Prepare annual budget and put controls in place to insure that SG+A is met per budget. This includes appropriate headcount control and assignment, and controls/signatures are in place for outside expenses.
Contribute to developing goals, plans, and programs that will assure that Service Solutions maintains its prominent position as industry leader.
Insure continuing effective operation of Mechanical Product Engineering through selection, training, development, and motivation of a competent staff.
Provide support to customer and sales organization by meeting directly with customers as necessary to provide technical information and counseling.
Elicit support as needed from other SPX Divisions for goals, plans and programs of Service Solutions. Support other divisions as requested by the leadership team.
Lead the Import/Export Compliance Team to support the effort of providing Harmonized Tariff Codes and NAFTA Certificates for the Service Solutions mechanical product.

 

 

 

Qualified candidates will possess:
Strong leadership skills - minimum 10 years proven experience.
A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent four year degree.
Ability to over communicate, listen and play catch with associates and customers to gain a first hand feel for the business.
Thorough knowledge of manufacturing processes and manufacturing technologies/theories with exposure to actual shop floor support.
Knowledge of procurement process.
Proven problem solving skills, including definition, data collection, establishing facts, and drawing conclusions.
