Director of Optical Development

We are currently expanding, and are searching for a Director of Optical Development.  As a Director of Optical Development your responsibilities would be to:

?  Manage a team of engineers responsible for the daily design, engineering, and documentation of Lightfleet?s managed optical network service offerings.

?  Evaluate commercially available Optical Networking hardware products to assess suitability for deployment in Lightfleet?s network.

?  Develop engineering processes and standards that will support the design, engineering, and implementation of managed optical networks.

?  Participate in face-to-face customer meetings when necessary, as part of the pre-sales or ongoing customer care process.

?  Define standards for internal systems that will be used to track and document optical network installations.

?  Serve as Lightfleet?s liaison to its Optical Networking hardware vendors, including the management of key vendor agreements.

?  Collaborate with Product Development, Marketing, and other groups within Engineering to help define Lightfleet?s future products and services

?  Collaborate with internal organizations to develop the process and procedures that will define how Lightfleet sells, delivers, and supports its products and services.

?  Define standards for installation, testing, and delivery of optical network services to customers.

?  Maintain budget responsibility over both capital and operating expenses in the Optical Networking area.

Education Requirements: 

  M.S or PhD in Physics, from a top Physics program

Significant education or experience in Mechanical engineering, optics, optical engineering preferred.

 

Knowledge and Skills required:Knowledge of packaged Optical Design Software, with proven design experience Strong experience in mechanical engineeringProven experience to develop Optical parts, systems, lenses, signals, etc., into a reproducible, manufactured product.Proven skills at transforming the theoretical optical device into the practical devise that can be manufactured on a cost effective basis.Experience in optical engineering on the physics side of the disciplineExperience working with high frequency lasers and receivers and the software that support those toolsExperience with mathematical modelingAbility to work effectively with all supporting team members: technical, engineering, scientists, operational and consultant professionals.Ability to build and manage a team of Optical Engineers with mechanical development competencies
