Electrical Engineer (Engineer III)

Due to needs at the lab, the following career opportunity is now available for a - ELECTRICAL ENGINEER (ENGINEER III) in the PARTICLE PHYSICS DIVISION (PPD)/ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT.

Responsibilities
Perform electrical engineering duties as part of an engineering team responsible for electrical circuits and systems for ongoing and future experiments in the PPD. The duties include design, simulation, bread boarding, and testing of both analog and digital circuits, and work with other technical personnel to build prototypes and production quantities of electrical designs. The job also includes project documentation, writing reports, writing software, and may include design of programmable logic devices. Typical projects will include electronics for all experiments at Fermilab as well as the International Linear Collider, Compact Muon Solenoid Detector (CMS) at CERN (the European Laboratory for Particle Physics), and the Dark Energy Survey.

The following are essential:
Ability to function as part of a technical team and be able to work on a variety of challenging electronics projects in all phases including design, simulation, fabrication, troubleshooting, commissioning and documentation.
Good analytical skills as well as practical laboratory skills.
An understanding of analog design concepts.
Ability to communicate clearly with physicists, engineers and technicians on a technical level.
Ability to make coherent technical presentations.
Familiarity with SPICE for analog simulations and other computer aided design tools is essential as is experience with modern electronics test equipment.
Competence in using computers for such things as engineering calculations, drawing schematics, word processing, and data analysis and presentation.

Requirements
MSEE (equivalent formal training).
At least 5 years of technical work experience (including participation in a work-study program).
Strong background in analog design and troubleshooting is preferred.
