Electrical Engineer - Medical Devices

Kelly Engineering Resources specializes in contract positions at engineering and manufacturing companies.

We are looking for an Electrical Engineer for a direct hire position with a medical device maker in Ann Arbor, MI.

This person will assume responsibilities for the development and support of a sophisticated control system for an implantable heart pump with the magnetically levitated impeller. This will include the current design evaluation and improvements as well as research, design and development of future generations of the control system for our life-supporting device according to all regulatory agency standards.

Major responsibilities:
Support technology transfer from R&D to manufacturing while acting as a single point of contact between system developers, manufacturing and quality teams
Analyze manufacturing processes in house and at vendors, resolve technical issues and improve the quality of the product
Develop product specifications and requirements, generate proposals, determine development feasibility and implement necessary design modifications
Coordinate design of product functional tests, development and implementation of software and hardware tools for new product design verification and validation
Conduct research, draft proposals, design and develop hardware and software for the new generation control systems

Required Knowledge and Experience:
Broad experience in analog and digital circuit design, manufacturing and testing
Experience with multiple DSP and microcontroller platforms (TMS320, Motorola 16/32 bits processors, Phillips XA series and PIC micro-controllers)
Working knowledge of CPLD and FPGA based designs for time-critical applications
Portable power supply including rechargeable and primary battery experience
Medical device development experience with a strong knowledge of regulatory requirements
CAD tools including circuit board design and layout software
Electric circuit and control system simulation tools

Additional skills
Experience with high-speed wireless communication technology
Brushless DC motors and back EMF controllers design and development
Knowledge of electromagnetic field theory and electromagnetic design software tools

Education:
