Electrical Engineering Supervisor

Description: Electrical Engineering Supervisor Summary of Position Duties:

In this position you will have the opportunity to supervise the Electrical Design Engineering team of Southern Company Generation - Engineering & Construction Services in Birmingham, AL.

In this position you will be responsible for supervision and technical direction of the Electrical Design group providing design engineering support to all operating companies within Southern Company Generation for retrofit, environmental and new generation facility design projects. Provides personnel performance management; resource planning; reviews cost estimates and schedules developed by the group; reviews work product to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards and regulatory requirements; assists in maintaining design standards and procedures; lead group to deliver technical options that provide cost effective, high quality products that meet the needs of our customers. Additional job responsibilities include the following:

Technical Leadership

Supervisor is responsible for leadership of the design team. In this role, he must: Ensure technical content of team's work products for adherence to codes, standards, regulatory requirements and accepted engineering practice. Maintain Electrical Design engineering standards Ensure Technical Specifications, Scope of Work, and Design Basis documents for comprehensiveness Ensure compliance with company procedures - QA, Project, Supply Chain Management and Corporate Attend EPC and other project meetings Work with Leads on major issues with projects to ensure resolution fully meets the expectations of the customer

Resource Management

Provide leadership to the design team in the following areas:

Performance management on an individual basis for team members and provide feedback to peers as required

Implementation of a training process that meets the needs of the individual team members through training, knowledge transfer and coaching to develop employees for leading roles in key department projects

Assist team members with personal development plans

Assess team members for future technical or project leadership positions

Take action to facilitate development of team members under their supervision

Develop and implement a staffing plan that ensures all Southern Company project needs for retrofits, new generation and environmental projects are fully met.

Education Requirements: BS in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college of engineering is required. Advanced degree in Engineering (MS) or Business (MBA) is a plus. Professional Engineer registration is desired.

Experience Requirements:

Extensive experience (7-10 years) in power distribution and associated electrical equipment design i s highly desired. Job experience should include:

Pr eparation of Design Basis documents ( single line diagrams, elementary and wiring diagrams, protective relaying, layout and circuitry design)

Preparation of design calculations

Preparation of equipment specifications

Preparation of bid analysis

Review of vendor documents for contract compliance

Development of project Scope of Work

Development of project cost estimates and schedules

Leadership experience in both technical and personnel areas are desired.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Comprehensive knowledge of power plant systems and ability to develop associated system design Comprehensive knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations to develop economic solutions to problems faced by operating facilities retrofit needs Ability to provide high level of customer service Strong interpersonal relationship and communications skills Ability to effectively organize and plan work involving the group Ability to develop relationships across department and company lines Must be able to effectively communicate with other groups and disciplines to ensure maximum efficiencies are achieved Lead and implement change to improve work group services and products. Must be able to present options in response to requests for engineering assistance. Ability to attract, d evelop and maintain a diverse, talented fulltime staff while also managing a large supplemental staff
