Electromechanical Small Compontents Assembly Engineer

Objective: Designs, develops, and launches new products for high volume production that meet divisional goals.  Provides product-engineering support to manufacturing lines.  Functions as leader of an engineering

  Section comprised of engineers and technicians.

Small Component Assembly - Electro Mechanical Product Design

 

Primary Function:

1.  Designs and develops new products for production that will be of high quality, meet cost

 objectives, meet product performance goals, and be on schedule.  The products assigned will 

 normally be complex and multiple in number and a high degree of independence for this position  may be expected.

2.  Assures that design and development activities are performed in such a way as to be in compliance

3.  Provides product-engineering support to manufacturing.

4.  Functions as team leader of a cross-functional products team for new product developments.

5.  Assures customer satisfaction by interfacing between the Division and the Customer or the Sales and Marketing Department.

6.  Directs the work efforts of an engineering technician.

7.  Functions as engineering section leader for assigned group of engineer and technicians.



Specific Duties and Responsibilities: 

1. Determines product requirements as specified by the customer or any internal or external

standards.

2. Provides design information to the CAD Department for the creation of experimental and

released drawings that define the product.

3. Uses 3D CAD to design and model new products.

4. Determines Bills of Materials for new products.

5. Performs DFMEAs on product design.

6. Plans and records the results of design and development activities and testing by the use of DVP&Rs and Project Timing Charts.

7. Performs calculations, analysis, and other demonstrations to assure that the product meets requirements.

8. Writes and issues engineering reports concluding on the results of design and development activities as appropriate.

9. Maintains the Central Product File in accordance with established procedures.

10.  Assures timely Formal Design Reviews of new products and documents them according to established procedures.

11.  Functions as team leader of a cross-functional team for new products, schedules timely meetings, and provides meeting notes for review by management.

12.  Supports and assures the use of APQP during the development process.

13.  Requests testing to be performed by the Engineering Test Lab in order to successfully accomplish design validation and product validation in accordance with customer requirements.

14.  Assures that the design and development activities are done in compliance to the Business System Plan.

15.  Reports to management any problems concerning product performance or timely completion of assignments.

16.  Responds to the Sales Order System in a timely manner to provide quotes for prototypes, delivery of prototypes, and release of products to production.

17.  Provide for and assure the building, testing, and shipment of prototype samples in accordance with customer requirements.

18.  Reviews and approves quotes for new products.

19.  Attends meetings with the customer.

20.  Assists in the efforts to develop suppliers.

21.  Creates and submits for approval development budgets.

22.  Initiates Engineering Change Orders and gives final review and approval for the accuracy of the change.

23.  Approves MDRs, 1st Piece Approvals, and TPCs.

24.  Provides product engineering support to the production lines in the form of root cause analysis and aids in the resolution of problems and implementation of corrective actions.

25.  Performs root cause analysis for GRRs.

26.  Provides support as a member of a Product Team.

27.  Directs the efforts of an engineering technician to accomplish tasks.

28.  Functions as engineering section leader by directing the daily efforts of engineers and technicians in assigned group.

29.  Acts as center of expertise for product areas as assigned.

30.  Leads, coaches, trains, and performs performance appraisals for employees assigned to group.

31.  Approves ECOs for initiation.

32.  Provides periodic status reports of assigned group?s projects to the Product Engineering Manager.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

? B.S. Degree in an appropriate engineering discipline.

? Five (5) or more years as an engineer involved in the design and development of new products or equivalent education and experience as documented by the Product Engineering Manager or the hiring manager.

? Strong communication skills.

? Strong organizational skills.

? Strong leadership skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

? Advanced degree in engineering or business.

? Automotive industry experience.

? Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and Projects.

? QS-9000 training.

? SPC training.

? DOE training.

? FEA

? DFMEA

? Previous leadership experience. QFD

? GD&T
