Kelly Engineering Resources is a Fortune 500 Company with locations through out the United States, Europe, and Australia. We have a permanent, full time position for an Energy Trader in Woodbridge, NJ.
You will trade physical and financial energy transactions in the hourly, daily and monthly markets for the Electric Operations portfolio of transactions including options. The trader will be responsible for interacting with the market participants including, power marketers, utilities, and brokers to develop, negotiate and execute opportunistic business opportunities that create value for the company. The individual will be responsible for analyzing and evaluating complex energy transactions to ensure that all relevant aspects including, energy price, transmission, counter party, and contractual terms are favorable to the Company and consistent with corporate guidelines for risk management. This position may also be involved in asset optimization. To buy and sell energy under the supervision of the Director Wholesale Electric Operations and within limits prescribed by policies and procedures to extract maximum value and manage risk:
1. Transaction Negotiation and Execution -- Interact with market participants to negotiate and execute energy transactions that maximize value for the corporation.
a) Constantly interact with the market to determine buy/sell opportunities that create value for the Company.
b) Determine price relationships and quantify value in energy markets.
c) Negotiate terms favorable to the Company and assure that contract terms are consistent with The Company requirements.
d) Develop and maintain relationships with other utilities, power marketers and brokers.
e) Develop market information for the group and the Company.
f) Develop and analyze data that improves the probability of successful trading.
g) Constantly, develop, communicate and execute complex trading strategies and tactics that increase value and mitigate risk.
h) Apply hedges to transactions to mitigate risk.
i) Interact with other commercial functions to develop new products, strategies and market opportunities.
2. Directly accountable for the risk associated with individual trading and transactions.
a) Responsible for trading within authority level and trading limits prescribed by the trading manager.
b) Responsible for all risk associated with the trades and transactions activity of all subordinates including, price, basis, physical, contractual, credit and delivery.
c) Responsible for the accuracy and quality of the transactions entered into the portfolio management system.
d) Accountable for creating value and attaining profit goals and objectives.
3. Control Systems -- Ensure that trading activity adheres to risk management and corporate guidelines. Specifically:
a) Trade within predetermined limits to control risk.
b) Ensure that internal and external audit requirements are met at all times
The required background and skill set for this position include:
' A degree in business, math or engineering or directly applicable experience required.
' Must have a minimum of 2 years direct experience in energy transaction scheduling, trading, or contracts.
' Be knowledgeable of the state-of-the-art financial risk management methods and hedging techniques.
' Must have analytical skills applicable to trading and energy transactions.
' Must have experience with physical, delivery, basis and price risk and the techniques necessary to mitigate those risks.
' Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills enabling the candidate to develop market relationships.
' Experience developing and executing strategies.
' Must have a proven track record as a high performer.
' Must evidence a creative thought process.
' Must generate ideas/concepts that are outside the box.
' Possess good communicative and exceptional interpersonal skills, easily able to establish credibility in the market place.
