Engine Chain Component Engineer

 


POSITION SUMMARY


 


The Engine Chain Component Engineer independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria in making minor adaptations and modifications.  The position’s assignments have clear and specified objectives that require the investigation of a limited number of variables, may work with cross-functional teams including procurement, fabrication and test laboratories, and may frequently interface with manufacturing engineering, sales and marketing groups.The individual should possess a willingness and eagerness to undertake new and challenging work assignments, be able to find creative and mutually agreeable solutions to day to day resource and product issues, and be supportive of BW engineering quality processes and procedures.


 


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES


 


 


 





1. Project Management:


 

Maintains organization of projects through the use of AQP seven-phase process.
Works closely with the appropriate project managers in maintaining project Gantt charts.
Provides required inputs for preparing engineering budgets.
Effectively utilizes the most current work order system to initiate jobs through CAD, model shop and development areas.
Ensures that phase reviews are coordinated, documented and executed per project Gantt chart milestones


 


2. Product Management:


 


Maintains design control through proper use of parts lists revisions and design revisions.

Actively benchmarks competitive products.

Performs detailed and accurate analytical evaluations of concepts prior to concept selection and detailing.

Writes specifications for both assemblies and components.

Develops and maintains DFMEA’s and Design, Verification Plans (DVP’s).

Develop new components and/or systems to promote BW market position.

Follow established engineering procedures for work requests, procurement requests, data retention, and record keeping.

Use sound engineering principles and work practices such as statistical analysis, design of experiment procedures, program planning practices in project planning and execution.

Stay abreast of current and future engineering technology.

With the goal of continuous improvement in mind; attend trade shows, read pertinent trade publications and solicit new ideas from vendors, associates to keep BW in the technological forefront.

Support the BW philosophy of concurrent engineering.

Support and maintain BW quality procedures and processes.



3. Prototype Procurement:


 


Initiates procurement of parts through the use of engineering parts list

Monitor delivery of components and systems to avoid any potential delays from suppliers.

Evaluate deviations and alternate material(s) substitution requests from suppliers.

Initiate rework of parts when appropriate.

Maintain design control consistently throughout the procurement process.



4. Customer Relations:


 


Respond to Requests For Quotes (RFQ’s) in a timely manner.

Respond to customer requests in a timely manner.

Assist in customer reviews of projects and programs.

Assist in preparing & presenting concept & design proposals to customers.



 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

 Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering3 + years experienceExperience in powertrain components or systems preferredExperience with general office computer tools (word processing, spreadsheets, office communications)
