Engineer 3 (Heat Balance)

Position Summary: Provide design and performance optimization of thermodynamic power cycles for utility and industrial generation projects such as design of combined cycles, conventional fossil-fired power cycles, and/or nuclear power cycles. Prepare heat balance calculations using state-of-the-art modeling tools. Participate in the selection of the plant?s major turbomachinery and thermal equipment based on technical, economic, environmental, and commercial considerations. Perform calculations involving compressible flow, two-phase flow, critical flow, hydraulic networks, transients, and combinations of these. Assist project teams in various fluid systems design, analysis, and troubleshooting efforts.


Requirements:  BS in engineering with a minimum of four to five years of utility or Industrial power plant engineering, with strong emphasis on power plant thermal design experience or equivalent required. Should have knowledge of, and experience with, steam and combustion turbines, power plant and equipment performance testing, heat balance modeling using GTPro, Gatecycle, PEPSE, or similar programs. Be familiar with the design and commercial availability constraints of the major plant turbomachinery (steam turbines, gas turbines, fuel gas compressors) and thermal equipment (boilers, heat recovery steam generators, feedwater heaters, condensers, cooling towers, etc.). Familiarity with recognized heat balance software packages such as GTPro/GTMaster, GateCycle, and/or PEPSE is desirable.
