Develop and improve ?Pressing & Shaping Technology? within Kennametal, especially in areas related to 'Press-to-Size'. Major projects to address this responsibility are formulated through ACE. Oversee the design, fabrication, assembly, and installation of pressing equipment and tooling. Support design and testing of compaction tooling for ?Prototype? insert geometries (turning, milling, and drilling). Develop technical solutions to control part shape as a function of green density distribution, and size control based on shrinkage. Consult with plant personnel concerning 'technical issues' related to pressing. Continually stay abreast of ?Compaction Technology? via periodicals, magazines, videos, trade shows, academia, and seminars. Initiate requests and make recommendations for R&D equipment related to pressing. Participate in R&D project planning and review meetings, issue a monthly report

Experience and Skills:
Ph.D. degree in Engineering with two years experience, M.S. degree in Engineering with four years experience, or B.S. degree in Engineering with seven years experience in an R&D or manufacturing environment using uniaxial compaction presses. Preferred candidates will possess a thorough understanding of compaction technology related to density and shrinkage, mechanical and hydraulic press controls, press tool design and fabrication and mathematical modeling of the powder pressing processes. Experience in other powder shaping technologies, such as injection molding, is a plus.
