INDUSTRIAL ENGINEER

JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for establishing and implementing the most cost efficient methods to operate the distribution center. Plans and coordinates the activities necessary to receive and ship products within safety, quality and cost standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Analyzes and evaluates distribution methods and standards. Provides solutions to problems that adversely affect quality, productivity, and cost.
2. Conducts direct labor studies using acceptable engineering practices and establishes standards on operations, set up and material flow.
3. Defines fixtures, automated material handling, and equipment used in the distribution process. Coordinates with vendors to specify or procure new equipment for facility.
4. Identifies areas of unnecessary cost. Researches methods and procedures for cost reduction, direct labor, packaging methodology, and material flow improvement.
5. Evaluates freight costs, recommending optimal vendors and guidelines to optimize cost and delivery standards.
6. Develops detailed, complete and accurate capital equipment studies and makes appropriate recommendations for capital expenditures.
7. Assists in development and troubleshooting of material handling equipment.
8. Develops and updates process documentation and procedure instruction.
9. Supervises industrial engineer, maintenance, and custodians; coaches team members to improve performance of individuals and department.
10. Assists in preparation of departmental budget including material, manpower, equipment and outside procurement costs, and operates within approved parameters.
11. Responsible for environmental compliance and improving safety within facility. Work in safe and healthy manner, strictly following all safety rules and regulations.
12. Perform special projects as assigned.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
1. B.S. in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
2. Previous experience with facility management, automated software systems, freight cost management, and distribution desired.
3. Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
4. Excellent verbal and written skills required
5. Ability to work with all levels of employees, from top management to warehouse employees.
6. Understanding of SPC.
7. PC skills required. Proficiency with AS400, WMS and CAD preferred.
8. Strong Project Management skills.
