Engineering Manager - AIT (Pomona, CA)

An exciting opportunity exists within Hamilton Sundstrand (`9s AIT business unit for a Manager of Engineering reporting directly to the General Manager of AIT.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual who will assume the lead in managing a small group of development and project engineers for a diverse range of process analyzers and interfacing products. These analyzer systems are used in a wide range of applications including, petroleum refining, petrochemical production, pharmaceuticals, fermentation and gas production plants. Most of these analyzer systems are used for on-line or at-line monitoring of continuous production processes. Core technologies for these analyzers include:

* Fourier Transform IR and Near IR Spectroscopy
* Dispersive NIR Spectroscopy
* Mass Spectrometers (`3 magnetic sector
* Gas Chromatography
*Raman Spectroscopy


The position requires 10 years minimum experience, BS Computer Science/Engineering (prefer MS or equivalent experience) in the design of cost effective precision electronic control systems and associated real-time software.


Must have demonstrated engineering team and technical leadership and have excellent verbal and written communication abilities. Software languages must include C++. Operating systems should include Windows NT/XP and associated device drivers. The most critical requirement is the ability to understand the relationships between fundamental mathematical concepts and the hardware and software needed to implement them.

The successful candidate will lead R&D development activities and provide day-to-day supervision of project engineering activities associated with customer projects. In the development engineering area, the candidate will be expected to provide (`cvision (`d for the strategic development of the product range with particular emphasis on consolidating engineering / software solutions across the full range of products and providing marketable solutions.

Specific tasks will include, but not limited to the following:
*Prepare R&D and Product Development proposals; attend regular project status meetings to brief the AIT management team on progress.
*Provide support for DCS communications interface projects involving serial, analog and digital connectivity.
*Coordinate software and hardware development activities related to AIT products and facilitate the information flow between engineering, design/drafting, and manufacturing.
*Participate in all AIT Product Center reviews (40+ per week due to current efforts to eliminate backlog).

Part of AIT (`9s engineering activity is subcontracted to companies with specialty capabilities and to support this effort, it will be expected that the associated statements of work (SOWs) and coordination of the outside vendor (`9s activities is performed diligently.

Product certification for compliance with regulatory codes in the United States and EU countries is a requirement for most of AIT (`9s products and further certification to meet the requirements of hazardous locations is required on about 50% of the product shipped. Coordination of the testing and certification process is an essential part of the job responsibilities and prior experience in this field would be a significant advantage.

An essential role of the Engineering Manager is to be the department facilitator; ensuring the needs of engineering personnel are met, such as computer/software requirements, training, etc. Currently the position has 5 direct reports and three assigned (`cmatrix (`d engineers that are fully utilized on AIT projects.

Coordination of hiring activities will involve the development of job descriptions and setup of the job postings in the HS (`cJob Connections (`d web tool. Hosting interviews and working with HR will be a requirement. Currently there are two open personnel requisitions in the AIT engineering department.
