MANAGER, ENGINEERING PROJECTS

 Job Purpose

To plan, organize and control all design and engineering activities associated with a major engineering project and to manage the project budget for assigned Central Engineering projects.  This position represents the highest level of professional expertise and knowledge in the field of project engineering.

 Accountabilities include

? Responsibilities involve the planning, scheduling, expenditure/budget control and technical leadership associated with managing major engineering projects from inception to successful completion.

? Works under the general direction of the Central Engineering Manager, exercising independent judgment, discretion and ingenuity to carry out broad and varied project management and engineering assignments.

? Wide latitude exists for un-reviewed action necessary for the effective management of a project and the manpower temporarily committed to it.

? Contacts include management, accounting, purchasing, research and engineering personnel at corporate and plant levels.

? Outside contacts involve equipment vendors, engineering firms, contractors, etc., to commission services/equipment, and assure compliance with delivery timetables, design specifications, construction procedures, installation schedules, and project budget.

? Typical problem-solving situations involve the use of project management and engineering skills to supervise the development, capital request preparation, engineering installation, construction and start-up of a multi-million dollar project.

? Evaluates, defines, and recommends new engineering projects to support the plants in achieving their goals.

? Provides assistance and guidance to plant engineering staff on project management.

 Qualifications and Background

Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in the required field of Engineering or the equivalent, plus a minimum of 10 years of applied professional experience which will provide a comprehensive knowledge of the practices, procedures and regulations associated with project management in a heavy manufacturing industry.  Must be capable of preparing calculations, specifications and drawings to meet design requirements.  Must be able to direct, supervise and work effectively with corporate and contractor personnel.  Prepares capital project cost estimates and manages expenditures within approved budget.

Extensive travel required with more than 50% of time in the field managing projects at BPB manufacturing facilities.  Must be able to work long hours in a plant environment and climb stairs to various levels within the plant. Travel would be by airline.
