Field Engineer II


Description: Job located at Staten Island, NY Reporting to Dept. 4130. DUTIES: 1. Installs, maintains, repairs, overhauls, troubleshoots, modifies, constructs and tests various types of electrical, electronic, and/or mechanical equipment and related devices including radar, CCTV, microwave, computer networks; 2. Applies technical knowledge of electronics principles in order to put equipment in operational condition and solve complex problems; 3. Troubleshoots and corrects malfunctions using specialized test and diagnostic equipment; 4. Performs more complex tasks as circuit analyses, calculating wave forms, tracing relationships in signal flow and using complex test instruments; 5. Modifies circuitry to improve performance; 6. Makes recommendations for improvements or modifications to correct problems; 7. Provides operation/maintenance instruction to customer personnel; 8. Prepares operating and malfunction reports and associated documentation; 9. Assists engineering staff in determining and solving equipment design problems; 10. Performs preventative maintenance; 11. May perform quality assurance testing of assemblies and equipment fabricated by other field engineers; 12. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned; 13. Participates in special projects as required.

QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Typically requires 2-4 years of related experience installing, maintaining, and servicing electrical/electronic/mechanical equipment; 2. High School Degree plus technical training equivalent to an Associate?s Degree, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work experience. 3. U.S. Coast Guard experience preferred. 4. Thorough knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques used in the installing, maintaining, and servicing of electrical/electronic/mechanical equipment.

OTHER JOB RELATED REQUIREMENTS: 1. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; 2. The work is typically performed at field sites and client facilities, which requires proper safety equipment and precautions; work may require some physical effort in the handling of light materials, boxes, tools or equipment boxes, or equipment weighing up to 70 pounds.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Possible travel to surrounding area.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Job may require climbing of towers up to 300 feet.
