GTS FVT Engineer - Test Engineering
SUMMARY OVERVIEW GTS technical positions all require similar types of activities, but the required level of technical expertise increases with the higher level positions. A GTS Engineer is required to be able to perform low complexity engineering work. The types of work performed by a GTS Engineer include development of test solution proposals, development of test solutions, test crisis support, and continuous improvement of core competency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Development of test solution proposals:
? Test solution proposals typically include, but are not limited to:
o Price commitment
o Schedule commitment
o Preliminary test specification
o Hardware description
o Software description
o Documentation package description
o Specification of tester validation criteria
o Specification of support requirements of the proposed test solution
o Specification of required customer deliverables.
? The process of developing test solution proposals includes, but is not limited to:
o Use of GTS on-line Request For Quote (RFQ) form and quote tracking tools and systems
o Adherence to GTS RFQ responsiveness requirements
o Use of GTS Functional Verification Test (FVT) proposal templates (quote form, test plan form)
o Completion of proposals on-schedule
Development of test solutions:
? Typically assigned to develop test specifications and test solutions of low complexity.
? Test solution development tasks must be done according to budget and schedule commitments submitted in test solution proposals
? Typically receives project-level direction from the GTS Project Test Development Engineer assigned to manage the project
? The tasks comprising a test solution development may include, but are not limited to, Design For Test (DFT), design, assembly, debug, validation, deployment, and emergency support of electrical hardware, mechanical hardware, optical hardware, and software.
? Electrical hardware typically includes, but is not limited to:
o GPIB and RS-232 controlled equipment
o VXI based test equipment
o Custom circuitry implemented in custom circuit boards and cables
? Mechanical hardware typically includes, but is not limited to:
o Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) chamber racks
o Bench-test setups
o 19? equipment racks
o Custom automated high-throughput fixtures with probe fields, and top, bottom, and side mounted pneumatically actuated modules.
? Software and compilers typically includes, but is not limited to:
o LabWindows/CVI, LabView, and TestStand
o ANSI C and Visual C++
o Visual Basic
o Assembly for Motorola and Intel microcontrollers and microprocessors
o HTML, PERL, ASP, and custom scripting languages.
? GTS FVT test development sites develop solutions for several test processes including, but not limited to:
o Board-level functional test
o ESS
o System test
? The process of developing test solutions includes, but is not limited to, the use of GTS tools and systems for:
o Test development (OrCAD, AutoCAD, software development tools listed above)
o Project tracking (action items, journals, time entry, milestones, and deliverables checklists)
o Test solution design guidelines (global fixture specification, schematic design requirements)
o Design reviews (design proposal, post-installation)
o FVT documentation package templates (test specification, BOM?s, tester validation, etc?)
Test Crisis Support:
? Support for the GTS Hotline.
? Special support requests as needed.
Continuous improvement of core competency:
? Participation in the GTS core competency improvement program.
? Participation in the effort to improve GTS tools and systems.
? Learning to solve problems outside areas of past proficiency.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Bachelors of Science degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering from four-year college or university preferred; and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
