Lab Manager - Hardware - Mountain View

This position is based in Mountain View, CA.

Google is seeking an Engineering Lab Manager to oversee the lab which supports the development and testing of Google's data center hardware. The lab manager will design and maintain a state of the art lab to provide for testing and characterization of hardware.

The lab manager will use a variety of innovative approaches to ensure on time delivery of these configurations within rapid project cycles. You will stay abreast of the latest software and hardware releases and plan for future requests for those configurations in advance and continually improve efficiency.


You also must demonstrate ability in estimating, forecasting, resource tracking, and risk mitigation in an environment of multiple on-going hardware related projects.

Responsibilities:
Design, maintain and coordinate the construction of hardware lab facilities.
Develop strategies to accommodate aggressive schedules and resource constraints.
Ensure on time delivery of committed test environments to engineering.
Identify periods of test equipment contention and ensure adequate spares and lead time.
Track resource allocation and maintain up to date inventory, machine and software inventories.
Maintain, schedule, and track test equipment calibration.
Forecast hardware requirements and lab growth.
Develop detailed purchase orders and proposals for new hardware and software.
Obtain price quotes for test equipment and hardware from outside vendors for estimation purposes.
Schedule external testing facilities where and when appropriate.
Provide status and visibility on Lab requests.
Perform regular maintenance and repair of lab hardware.
Requirements:
AA, BS in Engineering or equivalent work experience.
7+ years hardware lab management experience.
Outstanding communication skills and attention to detail.
Ability to commit to schedules despite numerous obstacles and unknowns.
Developing clear and concise facilities proposals and system diagrams.
Forecasting lab growth and developing rolling upgrade policies.
Ability to troubleshoot software / hardware configuration problems.
