Job Description

 

The Group Engineer is a fulltime entry-level employee participating in a 12-24 month training program that provides hands-on experience for Engineers interested in a specialized engineering and leadership position.  This engineer works hands-on with a group of employees in one of the various production departments as Manufacturing Quality Engineer (Stamping, Heat Treat, Automatic Bonding and Machining, Manual Machining, Automatic Assembly, and Manual Assembly, TC Machining, TC Sub Assembly and TC Assembly).  The Group Engineer?s supervisor serves as the mentor during the rotation.  Rotations are scheduled for the entire 24 months with new rotations scheduled in January and July giving the Group Engineer approximately 6 months hands-on experience in the assigned production department.  The Group Engineer rotates through 2 - 4 manufacturing areas in preparation for a final manufacturing quality engineer position which may occur before completion of the 24-month program based on Company needs and the Group Engineer?s gained knowledge and experience.  There may be the opportunity to rotate to other Schaeffler Group locations.  At the end of each rotation, an evaluation and summary will be completed by the Group Engineer, Central Manufacturing Quality Manager and the Department Manager. 

 

During the rotations, s/he will be involved in activities ranging from understanding process in detail, resolving external and internal customer complaints in that department, scrap reduction activities, capability studies.  Projects for this employee will require a very sequential, systematic and detail orientation.  S/he will be involved in many projects at the same time which demands the ability to plan and prioritize. Self confidence and sound communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary to interface at all levels as well as with counterparts at other Schaeffler locations. S/he will be expected to be a team player and very supportive of the goals of the department, team, and company.  In order to complete projects and tasks in a timely manner, this person must possess the motivation and assertiveness to push and meet timing requirements, but also flexible in understanding other priorities.  S/he knows and understands the current specifications of the Quality Policy and Procedures and contributes to the achievement of the quality objectives.

 

CRITICAL SKILLS: 

Technical: Quality Systems (TS 16949), Spreadsheets, PPS, PV, Minitab, MPACT, Statistical Concepts (Zontec software), 8-D(problem solving), technical writing, & knowledge of the current quality specifications.

Interpersonal:  Communication (verbal and written), presentation, team player, visible leadership.

Organizational:  Planning, time management, multi-tasking ability.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 

BSME with limited experience in the Manufacturing or Quality environment preferred.
