Position Description:

Chevron Energy Technology Company is accepting online applications for a Heat Exchanger Specialist (0608-50150767) located in Richmond, California through September 8, 2006.

OVERVIEW OF POSITION:
Chevron?s Energy Technology Company (ETC) provides technical guidance for company and joint ventures around the world. Professionals in the organization partner with Chevron operating units and joint ventures to assure world class asset design and maintenance of existing assets.

This Heat Exchanger Specialist position will work collaboratively across multiple levels of the organization, and with multiple project teams around the world. The Heat Exchanger Specialist provides expert consulting on heat exchanger design and trouble shooting for all Chevron operating companies. The team is responsible for stewardship of Chevron?s heat exchanger knowledge, and for maintaining a network within Chevron that uses this knowledge to improve business results. This position is being added to the team in order to handle current work load and develop a new specialist as part of our ongoing program for succession planning in critical technologies.

Qualifications:

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
- Provide counsel and advice to clients from Refining, Chemical, and Upstream on thermal design and process integration of heat exchangers so that they perform as required to optimize business results. Trouble shoot existing heat exchangers to resolve performance problems.
- Coordinate efforts as required with materials and mechanical engineers to ensure exchanger problem resolution results in ?complete solution? for customer. (closure considerations, compliance with code pressure vessel requirements, and materials selection will be performed by others)
- Consult on design criteria for new heat exchangers. Help establish relationships, which will ensure projects receive heat exchange equipment, which will meet customer?s needs.
- Maintain Chevron?s expertise in heat transfer and heat exchangers. Maintain the Heat Exchanger Manuals and the other processes that are used to ensure Op Co engineers have easy access to Chevron?s knowledge base in these technologies. Keep current with industry developments in heat exchanger technology, and the advancement of heat exchanger design tools. Participate in industry committees as appropriate.
- Translate practical business needs in heat exchanger technology into appropriate research and development projects. Lead industry task groups to resolve problems identified.
- Provide field support for projects and shutdowns. Travel to customers? sites as required working problems and maintaining customer contact.
- Prepare progress reports and maintain effective contact with customers.
- Provide heat exchanger training through Chevron Technical University and other, specifically requested classes.
- Assure appropriate resources are available to address heat exchanger problems as they arise. Supplement own expertise with support from others (company and non-company) as needed to balance workload.

SPECIAL SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS OR ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS/INFORMATION:
- Bachelor?s degree or higher required in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Candidate should have experience in process design and operations support, as well as heat exchanger rating troubleshooting and some redesign.
- Some travel is required.

- Job Knowledge: Fundamental knowledge of design and operation of heat exchangers. Knowledge of Heat Transfer Research Institute and other heat exchanger rating tools. Basic knowledge of mechanical design considerations for heat exchangers. Fundamental knowledge of process plant design and operation for common refining process plants.
