Hardware Engineer III, Optics Overseas on a Tropical Island (Accompanied)

Location:  Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands:

Responsibilities: The Hardware Engineer will perform analysis, design, and implementation of upgrades necessary to improve the operational capabilities of Optics systems.  These Optics systems include high power telescopes and high resolution digital imaging equipment that are often used in astronomical observatories.  They are not fiber optics or computer networking related systems.  The candidate should be comfortable in a lab environment (testing/design) and in the field (field support / troubleshooting / repair / operation).  Previous supervisory experience is required as the position involves managing personnel performing maintenance and modernization integration. The Hardware Engineer will provide training to advance skill level and knowledge base of subordinates and co-workers alike. 

 

Status:  This full-time position has a two year minimum commitment with accompanied or unaccompanied status. 

 

Security Clearance:  Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. 

 

Required Skills:  A BS in Electrical Engineering, Electro-Optics, or related field a minimum of 5 to 8 years of professional experience is required.  A solid understanding of electrical engineering principles and circuit analysis and design is required.  Experience with embedded computers and single board computers, VME bus and related boards (time processors, digital I/O, ADCs, DACs is required.  A Familiarity with operation of standard test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, waveform monitors is required.  Experience troubleshooting systems to board and component level is required.  Experience with MS Office is required.  Good oral and written communication skills are required.  The ability to comfortable in lab (testing/design) environment and in field (field support / troubleshooting / repair / operation) is required. The ability to perform physical labor and the ability to travel by boat, helicopter or aircraft to and work at remote sites with limited facilities is required.  .

 

Desired Skills: An MSEE is desired.  Previous experience with optics systems, including still, IR, and hi-speed tracking cameras would be beneficial. Experience with feedback and motion control systems and related hardware such as motors, tachometers and encoders is desired.  Experience in Electro-optical engineering is desired.  Experience with UNIX and QNX or other real-time operating systems, and C programming is desired.  Experience with CCD and CMOS sensors is desired.  .
