Health and Safety Coordinator

The Health and Safety Coordinator will provide support leadership to management, employees, and the community through education and pro-active initiatives to reduce risk associated with Health and Safety activities and to ensure compliance with internal as well as external regulatory requirements and initiatives. Serve as part of the Plant Operations team with additional operations responsibilities.  This position is part of Cargill's AgHorizons business unit, which serves farm customers in the United States by providing products and services including grain origination and storage, grain marketing resources and advice, crop input products such as seed and fertilizer, agronomic advice and information services.

 

Principal Accountabilities:40% - Advise, support and promote HS management and improve awareness, measure and ensure compliance with internal policy and procedures and external regulatory requirements and best practices. Assure compliance with all regulatory laws, regulations, and permit requirements. Create reports and documentation as necessary and ensure compliance with record keeping standards for regulators. Measure EHS performance. 30% - Plan, develop, track and conduct safety training sessions, inspections, audits. Coordinate activity of Employee Safety Committee, BBS (Behavioral Based Safety) Steering teams. Follow-up and assure completion of action items and gap closure. 10% - Communicate safety and environmental goals and standards to management team. Perform risk assessments and lead/assist in development of strategies and tactics to accomplish goals and reduce risk. 10% - Assist plant personnel with contractor safety management including the contractor selection process, contractor training, and observation of compliance activities. Assist contractor with incident investigations, and third party claims as needed. 5% - Manage safety side of Worker's Comp issues. Prepare and organize EHS files for corporate and division audits. Write and implement HS programs and processes. 5% - Conduct hygienic assessments including ergonomics, noise, heat, dust, etc. as needed.

 



RequiredRequired 4-year degree in science or safety certification or equivalent experience. 2+ years of occupational safety and environmental experience in a manufacturing environment Superior communications skills; written and oral. Able to communicate to all levels of the organization. Excellent listening skills. Produce results through leadership. Develop trust and respect with employees Strong team player - willing to set challenging standards for personal work and department results. Must be creative and innovative. Must have familiarity with Microsoft Office and routine computer skills.
